'll have to "EDIT" the BIOS every time, to get the Bootable USB above the HDD
Maybe it's in a post above and I missed it, but do you have a key you can press that you will bring up the boot device/order menu (it's F9 and F11 on my systems). Usually there is a quick reference to it when you power on the computer - something like "press DEL to enter BIOS setup, F9 to change boot order". press the key, then select your USB from the list.
Kind of extreme that you have to actually go into the BIOS to do this.

You must unlearn what you have learned.

^ Yea a few posts up there was a mention I've tried them, and now F9 - nothing works and I don't see anything when booting.

^^ On my desktop I have to press F8 after switching on AND hold until this menu appears.
I am not clear why with you with the above mentioned keys (F8, F9, F11, etc.) should not work.
Also, this should be in the manual ...
Edit: and the BIOS menu (Advanced Setup) is that it?

@S11 - F9 is the key I need to use, it's not a standard. You have apparently tried yours.
You must unlearn what you have learned.

> Hard Disk Drives [Press Enter] - - 1st Drive: WDC WD500AAKX-22ER - - 2nd Drive: SanDisk Cruzer Blade
This part doesn't seem right to me.
That's how mine looks when a thumb drive is attached. But I don't have to go into the BIOS to select it. I basically do what unklar does:
1. turn on computer
2. get message to press F9 for boot order, or DEL to enter BIOS # this is a brief message at bottom of screen, your keys will most likely be different.
3. press F9 as soon as message appears to bring up boot menu # have to be quick and do this when message first appears, or computer boots from HDD
4. select the thumb drive from the list and boot the live session
Yours should be a similar process.
You must unlearn what you have learned.

Going to try again today, I still have 2 partitions I can use.
Yesterday I installed Bunsen from a live DVD - I still have some DVD-R|W's to play with but they are getting harder to find, everything is DVD-R today.

Well, then, I don't feel bad about it anymore.

Yours should be a similar process.
Will add unklars "and continue to hold it" IF I see instructions on the bottom of the screen.
Later today...
