Games for BL that run on older computers, sugestions?

Hi All, I am very happy with bunsenlabs which is keeping my dell d630 humming along very nicely. If I miss anything its games. Does anybody have any suggestions for good games that run on old computers?

I'd mention LBreakout2, Epiphany and Supertux. Simple games, but they're fun.

A lot of games do run.

Via WINE (if needed, install an up-to-date WINE from backports; also, try the playonlinux tool for using WINE): Anno 1602, Anno 15034 (I play these); WarCraft 3 w/ extensions; StarCraft I. Probably also the old Diablo I/II games but I never tried those.

Linux native: Neverwinter Nights (yes, they had a native Linux port), tome4 (https://te4.org/ [quite difficult, huge time sink]), Xonotic (see https://gitlab.com/xonotic/xonotic/wiki … uirements), freeciv (Civilization clone), The Battle for Wesnoth (think: round-based WarCraft 3).

Via emulators: Really any SNES/NES/GBA/GB/GBC game.

Plus all the classic card and board games have ports for Linux. Do not forget the various chess engines also which work really well.

Plus a lot of games I didn't mention.

I had Nexuis running smoothly, with fancy effects turned off, back in the day on weak hardware. It used too be in Debian, but now it's been forked as Xonotic...

OpenArena runs great on older hardware and I have to mention Dungeon Crawl, that plays perfectly on the TTY glasses

Xonotic is the best Quake-like. Actually I was climbing the death match ladder stats.xonotic.org two years ago (ranked 400..300..200..100..upto 80 or so I made it?) but then I stopped playing and all my ELOs got reset :< I need to start playing [competetively] again smile

Here's my profile: http://stats.xonotic.org/player/24333.

Most of the activity is based in Europe (and a little bit in North America and Australia, but much less than three or four years ago), so it's hard to get a good ping and players whilst being absent from these regions.

Actually, one big competitor of Xon is Red Eclipse, another high-quality FOSS shooter: redeclipse.net.

Need to add: Age of Empires II runs just as new and natively with the OpenAge engine: https://github.com/SFTtech/openage.

Another mention: OpenMW, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind also has an open-source engine implementation that runs natively on Linux: https://openmw.org.

Also, Valve's Steam has brought a lot of popular content to the penguin, but of course that content is hardly "FOSS" (especially Steam itself). But I thought we were talking about old computers mostly big_smile)

well yes, for my sake it does not have to be foss. Just something that runs on and old computer. I actually have Morrowind somewhere, the open morrowind project sounds pretty interesting.

I almost forgot Warzone 2100. I used to build it on #! and it did work (but somehow I did not really like the gameplay - or I just did not get used to it as I did not spend enough time with it).
