Does anyone know the status of this software vis a vis inclusion in Jessie? I can see it (latest version) in testing/unstable in the same version we had in Wheezy I believe. Could this be a backport candidate or is it already in Debian's pipeline? Can packages still get into Jessie now if they weren't there for release?
soz for all the questions.

Won't happen, closing.
gFTP is obsolete software (last release in 2008) and has too many outstanding bugs. Even though it's in testing and unstable no work has been done on the Debian package since 2012. See here for the list of outstanding bugs.
I suggest you use a piece of maintained FTP software instead. Some file managers and browsers have FTP functionality built in.
