Any idea of how to permanently change the default mono font in Writer? My crap memory forces me to take notes all the time. Whenever I paste some code snippet into Writer it switches to preformatted text defaulting to Nimbus Mono L which looks like crap. I prefer a more compact and easier to the eye font, but I find no way to permanently edit that style.
I remember in my former system that for some reason that font was replaced by DejaVu mono. No idea why. I was happy back then. But since I switched to my current system I've been struggling with that issue without success. Any help will be welcome.
Thanks.

Create a new template and save it as default. Works for me.

Been a while, but I think you can use the font replacement table for that - Tools -> Options -> Fonts.
You can have Nimbus Mono etc ... replaced by DejaVu Mono.
You must unlearn what you have learned.

Thanks, folks.
Hey, PackRat. I think that was how I once had set Writer my former system and completely forgot about it. Hope it does the trick again. Inconsolata will be.

I think I've found the cause. LibreOffice keeps using "some default" fonts besides the fonts replacement tool that PackRat pointed out. It completely ignores the settings I've made. This article also explains why I was quite happy with my former system replacing those fonts for DejaVu. It's a good reading.
https://seasonofcode.com/posts/how-to-s … linux.html
These are my current defaults:
serif: DejaVuSerif.ttf: "DejaVu Serif" "Book"
sans-serif: DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"
monospace: DejaVuSansMono.ttf: "DejaVu Sans Mono" "Book"
Arial: Arial.ttf: "Arial" "Normal"
Helvetica: n019003l.pfb: "Nimbus Sans L" "Regular"
Verdana: Verdana.ttf: "Verdana" "Normal"
Nimbus Mono L: n022003l.pfb: "Nimbus Mono L" "Regular"
Times New Roman: Times_New_Roman.ttf: "Times New Roman" "Normal"
Courier New: Inconsolata.otf: "Inconsolata" "Medium"
For some reason I ignore, incosolata is already doing a good job! LOL. I want to revert or modify some of those aliases. I don't want some of the ms-fonts anywhere. Nimbus Mono L and Times New Roman must be replaced systemwide. I also noticed that Nimbus looks that crap because it's replaced by some .pfb binary font. Hope this finally solves my readability issues.
Some time ago I learned that browsers need some of those fonts for better rendering. That's why they live in the repos besides not being free. This article above and this other one clarifiy why we use to want them in. Better keep the top ones in the list available or choose good working replacements for them. DejaVu is very good but not the maid for all purposes.
Hope this helps someone.

This made wonders. It works perfectly fine. Spent a whole lot of time testing and selecting fonts. Now most websites look better than ever before in Firefox.
Still haven't found a good Courier replacement (for LibreOffice mainly) . This automagically replaces the Preformatted Text style font (aimed for Courier or valid substitutes) in LibreOffice. All in all I'm very pleased. This issue drove me crazy for months. Only need to catch one more font.
Nimbus Mono L is just crap. The ones I've tried, including Croscore Cousine, are huge @ size 10. Will follow these tables to check some more replacement families.
