I have it multibooted on my "testing" laptop and it really flys on a modern pc.  Very fun and interesting to play with.  I dont rely on it for everyday use but it does work very well for a debian based distro in my opinion.

I'm similar. I'd like to have an ultra-lightweight distro for when this machine starts becoming "difficult" (it seems to be struggling with big loads at the moment).

All I've added to it so far are "full fat" Vim and Neovim for text editing, Terminator for terminal duties, and Seamonkey for browsing as I found Badwolf difficult to use; but I'm planning on adding some more small applications soon especially terminal-based ones (Elinks is probably going to be the next one).

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I've just installed the latest version of Mageia (9). It looks quite retro and its repositories seem smaller than those of the other rpm-based distros, but otherwise it works OK.

I had Mageia 9 installed on my spare laptop at one time and cant say I really had any issues with it.  The only reason I removed it was to install Garuda in its place.

Removed DSL 2024 and install Mageia 9 in its place.  I did a net install of Mageia to get the items I particularly wanted and to avoid others I did not want.  Openbox WM, stock wallpaper and custom conky.

Attention, backdoor in the xz-utils package of Arch, Debian (testing, sid), Fedora and openSUSE.

Guys, check your installations!

Thanks, this is worth knowing. For the time being I'm going to avoid the distros mentioned (Arch, Debian testing, sid, Fedora and openSUSE), because I don't know enough to get out of trouble if my system gets infected. I'm currently posting this from Slackware.

People with more knowledge than me can doubtless make other decisions.

Thanks, unklar.

On my Arch system, I saw the news, ran to install the fix, and found that the fix had already been installed in yesterday morning's updates. Those guys are quick!

So, on Debian testing, sid or experimental...

sudo apt install --reinstall xz-utils

... will gaurantee that you've upgraded to the fixed package which has the suffix "+really." Verify by running...

apt policy xz-utils

https://packages.debian.org/sid/xz-utils

More info for other distros...

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Didnt like Mageia enough to keep it.  Arch distros are more to my liking so I replaced Mageia with EndeavourOS and now things are more better!  :-)

Great! A lot of people clearly like Endeavour; I've seen good things said about it on the Linux subreddits. Nice desktop wallpaper too.

I like your Conky set up too; it's short but clear and provides all the necessary information. I also like to have the uptime displayed, though I wouldn't say that was "essential".

Bryan Poer (Endeavour developer) also posted this wallpaper on Twitter just before Christmas, which I think is really good;
