@Martin Yes, my users have different plug-ins and also different settings for the same plug-ins; as far as I know it doesn't cause any problems.

Have you tried multiple Firefox profiles? I think they should have separate cookies: 'firefox --ProfileManager'.

(I refuse to call Twitter eks too. roll)

Thanks for the tip, I'm definitely going to look into this. There's a Firefox add-on that enables you to switch Firefox profiles easily and on the fly, which I'm going to investigate too;

You can run multiple firefox profiles side by side if you launch them with the --no-remote option:

firefox --no-remote -P <profilename>

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I was installing and building Libreoffice in ExGent, and whilst it was going on (it's a lengthy process) something tripped a fuse in the fusebox and all the lights went out, all the power in the house went off etc. That was a result I wasn't expecting!

Still trying to work out whether I should call out a computer tech (who understands Linux) or an electrician.

Thanks! By the way, the last thing I want to do is put people off trying Gentoo or ExGent and I hope my posts (especially that one) haven't had that effect.

Naaaa, been watching you and Dobbie03.

D03 seems quite pleased with Gentoo.

Very pleased indeed. Like I said a few times elsewhere, I wish I had done this earlier.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

When I was playing around with labwc, apt kept recommending installing sway.  wink
I wanted to have it as mentioned by @cog and @PackRat, without Xwayland

That's why I didn't use the labwc installation.
Again the noX was used and sway was installed on top of it.

Now the frustration begins.  tongue
In Thunar no partitions can be mounted with 'click'. What else is missing?

In the ~/.config/sway/config are entered:

# Autostart
exec /usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 &
exec dbus-update-activation-environment --systemd DISPLAY WAYLAND_DISPLAY SWAYSOCK &

the polkit-agent says it is running for the user:

ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep polkit
polkitd 528 1 0 10:54 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/polkit-1/polkitd --no-debug
unklarer 1469 1 0 10:55 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1

Looks like it's not being 'passed through'. hmm

The sway's own bar and menu work.
fuzzel - (like plank - a wonderful menu) works;
waybar - does not work
vieb   - does not work (see screen)
grim   - works (also with area)
swayimg- works

Except for vieb everything is in the repo's.  big_smile

I think you still need the gvfs packages installed.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Thank you, PackRat.  Unfortunately.

Only gvfs-backend and gvfs-fuse were missing.
No improvement after that either.

That gave me the idea to run journalctl -af and the result is getting better big_smile  and I also installed pkexec.
Anyway, I now have an error message.

As it happens, I didn't find anything about the problem in the wiki. But how to change the theme, mouse pointer and icons (lxappearance is no longer available)
So, BL-Litium is doing very well!  big_smile

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

The problem is still unsolved, although I think I have worked through all the documentation and error messages.  hmm

So for the time being I can state:
- sway with Xwayland (a dependency in labwc) works
- sway with Wayland does not work (no PW query appears when mounting (click in Thunar) other partitions. Apparently the 'connection to the display' (?) is missing.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I installed Pop! 22.04 today and found that grub in it doesn't probe the hard drive for my other partitions, so I installed one of the newest spins on AntiX (the one with a variety of init systems available, including s6) as well, which does (still) probe the drive.

See the announcement here;

https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic … ost-133386

It seems to work just fine with s6, as far as I can see; otherwise, it's standard AntiX except that they seem to have gotten rid of herbstluftwm or whatever it's called (the tiling manager).

As for Pop!, I liked the tiling feature but it seems to be less versatile than what you'd get from a fully fledged tiling manager such as dwm, i3 or spectrwm (or even herbstluftwm if I could understand it).

Edit: more acquaintance with Pop! proved disappointing. I couldn't find any way of launching more than one instance of the terminal when I was in tiling mode.

It's good that it eschews the use of snap, appimage or flatpak but if you want a Ubuntu-based distro with tiling, I think you'd be better off installing something like Mint and then one of the tiling managers I've mentioned (and then maybe a status bar such as polybar too.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Just finished updating Fedora 39 (Cinnamon) and then running the Ultramarine script, to install Ultramarine on top of Fedora. The whole process went without a hitch but I have to wait for Ultramarine until the kernel is udated again (which isn't a major problem for me because Fedora Cinnamon is a devcent distro in its own right).

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I have pretty much switched over completely to Arch based distros on my main laptop for regular/normal/everyday use.  Of the six distros I have multibooted, 4 are Arch based (EndeavourOS, ArcoLinux, Mabox, and Archbang), the other two are Void and PCLinuxOS.  Debian based distros are pretty much a thing of the past for me.

I use Arch BTW!  If it is not rolling, it is stagnant!
