I installed BL today on my laptop without incident. But after running the post-installation update, the battery indicator is now not visible. It's still there but all black. This also happened after I installed BL on a VM and ran the post-install script.

Try running the bl-welcome script again. It should have been upgraded, and the newer version will detect if it is installed on a laptop, and offer to replace fdpowermon with our backported xfce4-power-manager. Hopefully this will sort out the battery icon bug.

Did you try the method I posted in Post #2, ie run `bl-welcome`?
If you have a different problem, then please start a new thread, because this one is "SOLVED"!
