... ,searching the net i found a workaround for that problem: kernel 4.4 seems to have problems to detect a HDMI-display on intel chipsets (like my GM45 Express). Changing my monitor hook-up from straight HDMI-cable to HDMI-to-VGA adapter plus VGA-cable, my beloved computer now boots to desktop also with kernel 4.4.

Small Fujitsu Esprimo Q5300 Desktop with notebook- chipset (Intel GM45 Express), integrated GMA X4500MHD - grafix. Southbridge ICH9-M.
Just one HDMI connector for the display. Since it's a notebook-chipset, when booting into linux the output for both laptop-screen (LDVS) as well as the external output (HDMI or VGA, dependent on the cable in use) were active. So i put "video=LVDS-1:d" to the kernel command line to switch LVDS off.
