Re: 2026 Screenshot Thread

@PackRat, nice distro. By far the easiest way to get the new Wayland stuff.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Re: 2026 Screenshot Thread

^ Huh, it took a second boot to bring the niri desktop configs up. Wow, beautifully minimal...

CachyOS has some security features baked in; that may be one. When I changed the shell from fish to bash, I had to reboot.

CachyOS with mangowc

Really? It doesn't make sense. Log out and back in should be enough, unless /sbin/sh link is changed, too. Will check when free.

Cachy is good for newer CPUs, for example V3 or V4. For old hardware, it's not worth it.

Re: 2026 Screenshot Thread

^Logout may have been enough, I needed to reboot to run update-grub from my main OS (trixie).

^^ I installed mango as well!

That's right. Log out / log in. Just changed from bash to zsh and that's all it took.
Thinking of something else that required reboot.

Back on topic -
CachyOS, mangowc, waybar, kitty terminal -

^ Nice Ice!

Just starting to play with niri on Cachy, by far the coolest thing OOTB is Noctalia shell.

https://github.com/noctalia-dev/noctalia-shell

You can set it to adapt your wallpaper colors automatically, and the shell animations are amazing (not shown).
