They've been talking about it for some time. At least a release ago.

The kernel, installer and iso images will be gone, but the 32bit packages will still be around, so some back-alley installs might still work. I guess the lack of a kernel newer than Bookworm-backports is the biggest barrier.

Maybe that's not a huge barrier if the 6.1 LTS series still gets updated for at least another couple years as 32 but hardware is still pretty much the same, as 6.1 is enough for existing 32 bit hardware in terms of features. I'd give it another couple releases time frame before 32 bit no longer is viable.

Re: deadbang

^This.

I don't suppose there are any Debian-based distros that plan to go on building their own 32bit kernels and installers?

Re: deadbang

Refracta & MX Linux have their own installers, Refracta's could certainly be used with any Debian-based distribution and the developer is particularly awesome.

The kernels are tricky but I could always try building versions in my openSUSE Build Service repository using the amd64 config.

Re: deadbang

As for BL, certainly a 32bit run on live-build looks out of the question for Trixie-based isos.
I'm vaguely wondering if the netinstall script might be able to do something. It needs a Debian base install to start from though, so possibly starting on Bookworm, upgrading to Trixie, then installing a custom HOAS kernel...

Lol, been there, done that...not to any Peppermint folk, but I think i'm on Ralph's permanent s**tlist on the Devuan forum.

Downloaded deadbang, gonna check it out tonight, i'm a big fan of minimalism and Openbox-anything always gets my attention. wink

Yeah, I can relate. I have a tendency to be a bit cavalier about capitalisation (though I usually try to get the spelling right) and have just been taken to task by Brian on the antiX forums for referring to their distro as AntiX.

My basic strategy now is, when I'm in an argument (especially online), count to at least 10 and ask myself; "Does it really matter, and who's in the wrong here anyway"? At least as often as not, it's me.

You'd be the Hero_on_a_Stick of any 32bit'er that found that.

And I say that will all due respect!

I feel totally at home with you guys.  I'm banned from Arch forums.

After TeoBigusGeekus had a run in with people over at Ubuntu forums he decided to move his conky weather scripts to the Arch forums.  Why not he was an Arch user.  Well the powers to be at Arch didn't like that. It attracted to many "non-Arch" users to the forum.  That's when I asked Corenominal if his conky weather scripts would be welcomed at CrunchBang.  Core gave the green-light and welcomed Teo with open arms. And the scripts went from #! to here.
I immediately went to Arch and started deleting some of my posts.  I got an email from an Admin asking me why I was deleting my posts, I could be banned for doing that.
"Go ahead," I said, "you shut down a conky thread by an Arch user because it attracted to many non-Arch users to your forum.  Users that might decide to try Arch someday after reading your forum. I'm one of the "non-Arch" users, so go ahead and ban me, I won't be back anyway, Teo's thread that you people so ungraciously deleted has a new home at the CrunchBang forum"

And ban me he did.

LONG LIVE deadbang

That's nothing: I got banned from the Debian forums even though I used to be a moderator there and I think I still have the highest post count. I was a bad boy.

EDIT: and no capitals in deadbang, even if it's at the start of a sentence.

Re: deadbang

Awesome work PackRat, thanks.

A bit spooky though, look at the first commit for the project:

https://git.sr.ht/~head_on_a_stick/dead … 69fecb49a9

Great minds think alike, eh?

EDIT: I've saved the image, that will be useful if deadbang migrates to xfce4-panel: it would look great as the menu button icon. Stolen! big_smile

Personal opinion: I hate it when people delete posts - users or mods alike.

There are some examples of both those cases here and we've lost valuable content that will never come back. sad

Re: deadbang

Full disclosure: I once banned somebody over at forums.debian.net because they were deleting old posts. It's a cardinal sin as far as mods are concerned.

And yes, I am a terrible hypocrite.

Good work on the distro but I'd prefer it if you could be relaxed about deadbang not being capitalised at the start of a sentence; capitalisation makes the sentence easier to read.

Agreed, fsmithred is amazing, helped me a LOT over the years.

Pertinent to this discussion: He is not happy about the 32 bit issue either, he took the time to grab the last working kernel and rolled up a NoX iso just to have something that might be useful for a few years.

Re: deadbang

Lol, does BL stand for Bunsen Labs or does it mean "banned list"? wink

I don't think i'm actually banned anywhere, but there are places I don't go. This forum is pretty nice and welcoming and definitely informative, reminds me of the old #! forum which was always a good place to hang out and learn new things.

Some forums like to squash any talk about things that go against the protocols of their particular distro, haven't seen that here, it's pretty refreshing.
