What did you think of river? Did you ever get Wayland functional/stable on your machines?
I really liked river, reminded me of dwm. I did struggle to get a cohesive looking desktop though, which is a major issue for me.
I had to use my RX5600XT card which isn't as good as my Nvidia card to get Wayland to place nicely. I'd prefer my games running at a decent resolution over using a Wayland wm so I'm just sticking with dwm.

River is working fine. It's stable; I'm using the default layout so basic dwm-style tiling. Some of the user contributed layout generators look interesting.
