Yes, it is. I wish it would get some more development though; kind of falling behind.

Gentoo, as solid as a rock.

I wish I had done this earlier.

Re: January 2024 Screenshots

Why? I understand that you're learning the inner workings of Linux or something, but why is it better than, say, apt install?

I don't mean to undermine you, in fact I'm in awe. It's just that I've never heard a good explanation of why one distro is better than another other than package management and being on the cutting edge of packages. And if that's the criteria, Gentoo, if not the worst, is certainly the most difficult.

Keep in mind that being sources based, Gentoo has a different philosophy of package management. You can (are supposed to) compile the packages for your particular system. If you really get into the intricacies of compiling and match it with your hardware, Gentoo systems are lean and mean. Small kernels that only load drivers for your hardware etc .... Very responsive and stable systems.

Because I wanted to really.  It was a challenge to see if I could replicate what I had on Arch, which I can set up in less than an hour on Gentoo.  I was successful, so I am sticking with it until I kill it. I tried with NixOS and was mostly successful, but little issues just got under my skin, so I nuked it and moved on to Gentoo.

I don't believe just one distro is the best, I personally believe the best distro is the one that works best for you. big_smile

Oh, and like Pack says, the system is configured to my hardware. Super snappy.

Re: January 2024 Screenshots

A new sys-mon gnome-extension dropped (Astra Monitor). Finally one that looks good with a vertical panel (Dash to Panel extension)...

Do you remember where you were when The Memory Wars broke out and Skynet exploited that to take over the world?

Re: January 2024 Screenshots

Wait, @Dobbie, I just realized your on kernel 6.1. Why not 6.6* or newer? Ubuntu stable is currently at 6.5...

rachel@tyrell-corp:~$ uname -r
6.5.0-14-generic

https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/sy … oo-sources

Is 6.1.69 current gentoo "stable"? Sorry, I know nothing about gentoo. big_smile
