Just wanted to make sure you saw my hack/workaround for the logout problem you were having with Boron (bottom of the post)...

Nice setup, BTW.
No, he can't sleep on the floor. What do you think I'm yelling for?!!!

Yes I read it, thanks. I don't use logout much.
Complete the pattern, solve the puzzle, turn the key.

siduction Fluxbox live USB...
Very nice that you used the xorg (with fluxbox).
I have to take this opportunity to ask you, what basic packages are required for openbox?
I've forgotten that again and I want to shorten my route...
It looks like my old siduction-LXDE also needs to be replaced. The guys don't have the capacity to deliver a fresh LXDE.
Just like replacing plasma with dk, I would use the nox for that, which worked great for me.

Really all that is needed is...
sudo apt install openbox obconf
Openbox brings in the window manager and some default themes, and obconf let's you change the Openbox theme and things like the Openbox menu and title fonts, the number of desktops, desktop margins, etc.. The rest of the configuration would be like Fluxbox but with no panel by default. urukrama's guide to Openbox is mandatory...

Of course, you could also install BL Boron on a sid system like I've done with my Ubuntu setup. Open a thread in Development & Suggestions about installing BL on trixie/sid if you're interested, John and I would be glad to help. We'll need to deal with the issues that may arise anyway if we're going to eventually release BL Carbon.
I'll open a thread myself later today or tomorrow. Keep an eye out!

^It took me a good 2 days to get Thunderbird 115 somewhere back close to how it was before the upgrade. This always happens with Mozilla upgrades the last few years. Still faced with this annoyance:
https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussi … td-p/36090
Open any folder and the cursor is at some random place, not at the newest message. If it's a big folder, have to click on some random message then hit "End" key... or else much scrolling...
But this isn't a Tbird support thread so I'll stop there.
...elevator in the Brain Hotel, broken down but just as well...
( a boring Japan blog (currently paused), now on Bluesky, there's also some GitStuff )

I agree, but ...
See the messages header in my screenshot > Date.
When I open any folder I always see the last message.
The scrollbar is always at the end of the folder.
If people would know how little brain is ruling the world, they would die of fear.

Wow, it wasn't my intention for you to go to all that trouble
I like the idea of doing it right away with BL. Unlike the naked openbox, everything is already configured here.
Thanks for this!

@unklar, no problem. I can use it as a reference anyway.
@Packrat, new monitor? How did you take that scrot? Lovely bspwm setup.

No. Have had that dual monitor setup since 2020 when the wife had to start from home due to covid. I'm not on that machine too often. It's dual boot Win10 and Void. Void is configured as nfs and ftp server and has music, video, data files on it.
I used xfce4-screenshooter for that screenshot. I also use maim (or scrot).

You must unlearn what you have learned.

^ I assumed it was 2 scrots of 2 monitors stitched together. Today I learned about ultrawide displays!

I just tried Plasma on sid and I must say I was impressed. The eyecandy on Wayland is superb.
But with a laptop that has 4G of RAM like mine, it's hard to justify using half of that for DE. BL cuts that in half while looking 90% as pretty.

Honestly, I made a radical turn from GNOME to KDE, it was my first time switching to KDE after being on GNOME/GTK my entire linux journey for many years.
I have always seen KDE from other people's scrots, to be honest i didn't liked KDE4 a decade ago, so i was always on GNOME/OpenBox GTK box. My old OptiPlex Intel Core2Duo e8600 | 4GB RAM in work since 2007-2020 couldn't afford KDE, but even if he could, i don't believe i would enjoyed all the plasma benefits. So i was pleased using all time Debian-based distro with WM and GTK apps.
When i bought a new hardware the first distro i tried was Fedora/GNOME which i kept for a year. I had a very good experience with new Distro/DE. Seeing users scrots of KDE i convinced myself me try it. I was honestly fascinated. I realized that i have to keep KDE Plasma. Then apps, Dolphin, Kate, Elisa, kTorrent and a few others are daily part of my needs that really nails me. Dolphin dual panel, sidebar infos and other gadgets make me take it and won't let it go this FM.
I think that 4GB is no longer enough to have KDE Plasma, Even GNOME Shell it is not enough nowdays, we can make it working optimizing or unticking services, but as soon as it is loaded or left on for many hours running, it will show delays, fast consumption of SWAP or other graphics glitches.
KDE5 Plasma is heavy, it used to be light on the early days as it was being compared to XFCE memory footprint, but over the time it was loaded a lot. Currently it starts with 1.8GiB whole some apps on background it reaches very fast to 4.5/5+GiB. Therefore, no matter how good it may seem It is heavy, and not enough for 4GiB to me.
Well, all of you at BL have done colossal work since the last days of #!, therefore every effort spent has been worth it for many openbox users. So, stick with Openbox or XFCE until the engine lasts don't give a fcuk
