Slight addendum; from the i3status man page:
If you want to use the last full capacity instead of the design capacity
(when using the design capacity, it may happen that your battery is at 23%
when fully charged because it’s old. In general, I want to see it this way, because it
tells me how worn off my battery is.), just specify last_full_capacity= true.
So the default is to use the design capacity and give the user an idea of the physical condition of the battery. In my case the battery is full at 77% - this battery is approximately ~3 years old.
I wonder if that's a straight forward calculation that could be put in a conkyrc?

It means your scrot is pretty but your battery is bad, best toss it.
-edit- ^ Serious question, is this a sarcastic answer or not? I'm not something of a battery expert, myself.

It's just another way to look at some information. I installed i3status on my Toshiba laptop that I know has a bad battery. Same basic configuration indicated the battery was fully charged at 100% (as if it was new) but the time left to discharge was 15 minutes which confirms it's on it's last legs. If only because it's putting out erratic information.
If you want a visual on your battery health it's interesting, but you can usually just tell the battery is bad because the charge doesn't last. The point you decide to replace the battery is subjective.
I don't know of any benchmarks that compare battery age to charge capacity so I can't say losing 23% capacity after 3 years is a sign the battery needs replaced. Still get about 2 hours on this battery, maybe more. If the rate of degradation is fairly constant, I have 3-4 years before the battery is at half capacity.
Hope you won't be laying awake at night thinking about this.

One less restless night, thanks!
Indeed subjective. I replaced a laptop battery on my refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad back several years. When the replacement died the disk drive was done too. Anecdotal, for what it's worth, but planned obsolescence. -edit- ssd ftw, eh? For sure this cheap new Ideapad will last longer than the cheap old Thinkpad. Wait, cheap old laptop lived in the woods with me for four months. The thing had spirit. And sand. Note to self: Keep Ideapad out of sand.
Adwaita wallpapers...

Holy cow, is that Plasma's drop-shadow out of the box? Heavy! Hate the round top, square bottom windows always and forever, as I've said before. Good scrot.
