GNOME 44.0 on Ubuntu serving up some solid dual-monitor configs and the Wayland scrot tool to capture it. Spanned wallpaper via GNOME Tweaks and Always Rounded extension to both set 4-corner rounding and Mutter border width...
it's from wallhaven if you want to search the original; probably larger format: https://wallhaven.cc/

Yup, found it honking big! Thanks...

@PackRat, I most likely will theme it, but I'm screwing with something else ATM.
I've been messing with live-build again, and I have a working Boron amd64 build. The theme customizations aren't built into the configs yet (I've added them during this live session), but it's a working bookworm live ISO with BL packages, firmware and codecs installed OOTB. I need to run a few more builds before I release anything, and also run it by the team, and I haven't even tried installing it yet, but at least there might be an "unofficial" ISO available soon. Bookworm is supposed to be released in 3 days, after all.
Anyway, this won't be the wallpaper, but pretty, ain't it? BL Boron amd64 test build (live session shown)...

I'm airing this dirty laundry in public here. There's something wrong with every live-build since Hydrogen that makes nm-applet just suck up RAM. It's like 135 or 150MB in my builds.
Here's what my Boron on Ubuntu setup looks like..
Somethin' ain't right, no sir.
On topic...

Debian current Xfce amd64 live-build that I built and installed...
And Openbox with xfce4-panel on top of that live Xfce install, a weird setup using all sorts of iBus, and nm-applet is still way low on RAM...
thunar got highlighted, oops, but nm-applet is there, and it's at 60. Not 135.

^That is a helluva awesome BL Boron scrot, I understand that you are in love. Is it any point to even try to improve that? Great mix of colors!

Oh, It's still pretty raw.
Getting better all the time. Some tint2 icon spacing, a messy install of a 6.2.* kernel to get my keyboard shortcuts and notification for the backlight going... the install is still very raw, I had to manually edit sources afterwords.
Still, how jazzed am I right now. Pretty jazzed, I assure you. 868MiB with firefix-esr running, nm-applet under 50! I think the problem was papirus icons, it sucks up the RAMses.
^ No problem.
You going to build a theme around that image?
Getting there!

It's not the DE that sucks up RAM per se, it's all the applets and compositing and services one wants for convenience that add up, no matter what WM/DE you use.
This.
Too much obsession with RAM when comparing DEs is unhelpful IMO.
Of course avoiding waste is good, but BL will need other attractive features if people are going to want to use it in the future.
(I think it already has some.)

Yes.
People who need to trim RAM should try Paper (I think the Thunar icon issue is fixed now) or another icon theme.
