Re: September 2020 Screenshot Thread

Well, it's a screenshot from a low-res copy of a movie that is cropped and zoomed to remove the letterboxing, but it's my new favorite wallpaper. Bonus points if you can name the movie it's from before the month is up.

I have tried it, but I get this error:

@unklar, All I can think of would be firefox not new enough, what I have is the version in repos

firefox --version
Mozilla Firefox 68.12.0esr

(Script tested in WSL/Buster/64bit and Raspbian/Buster/32bit, both with the same version of firefox, both headless machines).

Re: September 2020 Screenshot Thread

^I also have the version of the FF.
When I tried this I also disabled all my add-ons.

I can only guess, and, if it has to do with the locale or ascii ?  hmm

^Version that uses chromium and seems to work with Xorg running or not running. (Note: both scripts are experimental/janky and should not be used for anything serious). Known bug: chromium occasionally decides to not return anything and just hangs there.

Re: September 2020 Screenshot Thread

I'm worried a bit about the new Dune. Not that it won't be better than David Lynch's train-wreck, Blade Runner 2049 was pretty damn great.

I'm worried about it being too cringey, maybe even more cringey than the Lynch release. The cinematography and scene management will be great, but the actual production? This trailer worries me...

OK, I'm not that worried. It looks awesome.

Re: September 2020 Screenshot Thread

It will be well shot, acted, produced and directed.   It will be bland as all hell, just like Blade Runner 2049 (IMO).  I really liked Arrival though.

Lynch's take was flawed, very flawed.  Some great visuals and concepts - the Navigators, the folding space sequence, some of the Fremen stuff, but overall a big mess.   Lynch wasn't ready for such a big film, and maybe he's better suited to smaller scale stuff anyway.  He's still a genius.

I feel like something like Dune is basically unfilmable, without dumbing down the concepts and complexities of the novels too much.   I mean Star Wars can't even make a simple concept like "the Force" work coherently, so forget about Dune.

Fire Walk With Me is not really small scale. Small town, yes, small issues, no. He ran out of time and budget with Dune, and De Laurentiis decided it had to be one film, it should have been three films. Lynch was one of the first to embrace, maybe even create Steampunk. Just look at it...

And Eno with Toto was a nice try, but a total failure. You had Strauss and Penderecki with 2001, you had John Williams doing his best Brahms, Wagner and Mahler with Star Wars, and then you have fucking Toto and those ridiculous space ship scenes from some Saturday morning cartoon. The contrast between the good scenes and the terrible ones is intense, even mind-blowing. Like, how-could-it-end-up-that-bad mind-blowing. But when it's good, it's great. All kinds of psycho steampunk...

The most disturbing thing about the new Dune trailer is that Pink Floyd track...  WHY????

FWWM is an underrated masterpiece too.

Because Hans Zimmer, and because it's really messed-up great. That Zimmer cover is an Internet sensation, over a song that was already on one of the best selling albums of all time. But kids hadn't heard it yet, and now they have. We're getting old...

Hey, it beats the crap out of Toto. But if they use Floyd in the actual film, I will be heartbroken. I'd rather hear Toto.

Re: September 2020 Screenshot Thread

^Sure, it is weird the orig. version only seems to work on headless machines (I don't feel like discovering how firefox feels in different enviroments), maybe I'll do browserless experiment at later date.
