the imgur and imgbb examples from posts #82 and #83 click through to an actual full size image, not a web page. Good.
Do these sites provide the code for copy-pasting? How is it labeled, so less technical people can find it?
The two above screenshots and most others link to a web page, not an image.
I hope people understand the difference?
Although I don't like this so much, it's still possible to look at the images without allowing that site to rummage in my undies (because that's what imgbox wanted), but I would prefer links to images, not pages.
So, would it be possible to add a blueprint text to that effect to post #1 of subsequent screenshot threads?

@ohnonot, so from my exploration of this image hosting thing what we have is a mess basically:
- Size limits
- fake linking to image that may actually land a user to some page (I agree this is the ugliest one)
- really ugly on-server generated thumbnails
- not understanding images with alpha
- kinda complicated APIs (or I just don't care enough to deal with it)
- not respecting anonimity
- upload bytes per time limits that are really easily reached
- various weird agreement policies that are really hard to agree on
- will remember more, perhaps on some other thread

I admit i had to copy in the full image address to the thumbnail embed code on imgbb, it does not provide that code for copy pasting as far as i am aware, im not a member so maybe its only a members option, i will have to find out.
edit: i joined up to imgbb and there is no copy paste code you can use to have a thumbnail linked direct full image. You need to copy in the full direct link to the bbcode thumbnail embed code for it to work.
https://i.ibb.co/sP8CqVb/2020-01-20-194 … -scrot.png <<-- full direct image link
I dont see the issue with the thumbnail embed code that goes to the imgbb web page, you are able to view the full image there anyway exactly the same as you would hot linking directly ??

Not as far as I know - I use a homemade script.

....
imgur only provides the link to the full image, but just add "t" to the name to get a thumbnail link eg

imgbb uses the same API as scrot.moe, so BBCode links are provided when you hover over an image in an album.
My scripts do it all for you

Shaved about 200 MB of RAM off my install with Gentoo, lost my whole weekend besides the 4 hrs. I played golf.

Man, it's been years! What's does the average /etc/portage/make.conf look like these days? Also, weren't you strictly in the git (Funtoo) faction?

imgbb - works just like scrot.moe - but I have to log in every time.
That will be due to your browser settings I think.

Vanilla Gentoo has git portage abilities now too. Also a choice of init systems.

I see.
I assume that these scripts are good and do The Right Thing - let's add those links to the first post of each screenshot thread!
And evtl. add them to BL's right-click menu!

^ They need some road testing, but so far no one has given any feedback

Everyone has a different "taste".
For example, I try to avoid servers located in the USA...
So, no imgbb.
A test in the handling with imgur is for me at first "awkward" (but this feeling can only get better) in direct comparison with xfce4-screenshoter
The script works as described (the dialogues appear; questions; progress bar).
I think if this can be included in the menu, as @ohnonot suggests, then my "awkward feeling" is gone too.
I find the direct enlargement of the image better solved here than with scrot.cloud.

FWIW, here's a quick update of Openbox on MX19 using rofi (menu in middle, customized), nnn (file manager), tint2 (top panel with launchers), custom Conky (right), pywal to alter desktop wallpaper and screen colors) and neofetch to prove it all.... all window components and fonts are non-standard to MX.
On the same User acct I have bspwm, hlwm and xfce as well. I'll be dong a write-up on how-to do any/all of this stuff sometime in the future

I'm using Adwaita Dark as my GTK theme. It's too good not to use. Everything is pretty consistent. Sublime Text isn't quite perfect but it is close enough for now.
