My laptop runs at 1440x1050. That being said, other people might appreciate higher/lower resolutions. I'm a sicko and either stretch a wallpaper out or shrink it to fit the screen and I let the OS handle that. Most of the time it works out good enough since I'm in applications most of the day and not staring at the desktop. Although that can be fun as well.
