I prefer to rename configs that I wish to keep, especially menu.xml, then run
bl-user-setup --refresh
This will move all the new configs into your $HOME directory. Word of warning though that it will overwrite any configurations there, so be sure to rename the stuff you want to keep.
In fact, 'bl-user-setup --refresh' is supposed to automatically make dated backup copies of any files that it overwrites. Is this not happening for you?

Yes, thanks alef, I've just confirmed this on my system.
This may be why #! had the Liberation fonts as default...
Would it be enough just to have the Liberation fonts installed, even if not set as default? If so, let's put fonts-liberation back in.

^ Yes, just having the Liberation font installed solves this problem, no need to set it as default.

I would actually go one step further and suggest that if we are to include the Liberation fonts then we should make that the default and leave Noto to fill in the missing glyphs.
Liberation Sans was the default in #! Waldorf, after all, and I do find it's slender demeanour more elegant than the Noto Sans version.

Well done.

Any plan to release a 32bit beta as well?
Thanks.

3D or not 3D, that is not anymore the question.

We'll probably just wait for the Official Release to push our 32 bit and CD-sized images, but that's really up to @johnraff since he's the one currently doing the builds.
No, he can't sleep on the floor. What do you think I'm yelling for?!!!

32bit beta coming soon. It's a chance to fix tiny bugs and make sure the fixes worked.
We really should take a look at the CD iso soon too. I'll do a diff on the package lists and run a test build on that. It might well be too big, because Stretch is a bit bigger than Jessie, but we'll take it from there...

I've added details to the OP for starting the installer in graphical or text mode.
It works OK for an ethernet connection but the wireless fails because of a NetworkManager conflict, GRUB also fails in that situation because it is downloaded by the installer.
Hmm... how about just leaving d-i-l out after all?

Yes, we could probably figure out a fudge but it would be better to wait until Lithium, I think.

^Indeed, some kind of wrapper script might do the job, but it would need more testing time than we have now, really.

I've just built a 32-bit version of the beta1 ISO image, here it is:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QAtcW … -Puz-i3G0Z
^ It was built in a Debian stretch VM running in OpenBSD (under their vmm(4) hypervisor) but it should still work 8)
EDIT: the name is wrong, please consider this a beta-beta1 (if you will), I need more practice with live-build, it seems :8
EDIT2: sha512sum:

I will try to rebuild the image in a bit and get the name right...

^ Awesome, thanks again!
@johnraff, did you manually rename the images?
I've followed the 32-bit instructions (and the image seems to be correct) but it still bears the generic name, even after a rebuild.

Yes.
(BTW I added a couple of notes to the live-build readme about 32bit builds, a day or two ago. You need - at least in theory - an i386 build of our patched live-installer at least, or live-tools might not be removed.)

This is cool, and it will be interesting to compare our builds from exactly the same config tree, to see if the checksums turn out the same. This is the ideal of course...
My yesterday's i386 build worked, as did the live system, but install failed. I'm now pretty sure that was because I tried to build a 32 bit live-installer udeb on a 64 bit system. dpkg-buildpackage accepted the architecture flags, and pretended to build a udeb, but a certain binary file inside (/usr/sbin/print-inodes) wasn't made right, breaking Debian-Installer. I've rebuilt live-installer in a 32bit VM, put it in the live-build tree (git pushed btw) and building now. Fingers crossed.
