@matrix - tmux is pretty handy (that's tmux running in termite in my screenshot) especially if you like to use cli apps - it's a must have.
I did a reverse image search of that tiler - looks to be awesome window manager - scroll down to the other shots from 5th Estate. -- (edit: you found it already).
void linux + awesome wm:

It's AwesomeWM, with dvtm terminal manager
Nice dvtm find.
And something less filmic and more practical (removing tmux silly default border coloring and enters tile names with solid block that says tile is active)
Still tmux only.
P.s. I don't see a way to position text right aligned on tile lines.

^Hehe, "you there?" Definitely better with the improved bolder coloring, great setup.
I just realized that dvtm (dvtm-session) with abduco is basically a tmux replacement. I only knew about Screen. I think I'll try tmux as it's supposed to be possible to save a session layout and start it even after a reboot. dvtm looks interesting though.

Not that I know, at least not without 3rd party tool / plugin.
dvtm looks interesting though.
Agreed.

Well, I'm gonna have to eat my words.. I'm back in a DE. But with Gnome and Mate starting to kind of compromise my established workflow I've found a little peace on plasma. Konsole already was my favorite VTE term, and with double click enabled dolphin aint bad.
Also, finally found the source of my favorite wallpaper from ArchLabs on unsplash.
Funny enough, plasma with nothing running is only 450 megs. That's leaner than any of the other major DE's including XFCE I've experienced.

Some years ago on #! I re-discovered this distribution from a week... just the time for me to find back the wallpaper and Conky on an old hard drive and to choose some openbox themes.
Nice! I like that "green on grey", it looks great.
If anyone is still interested in the Fifth Estate setup details, here is an imgur site with all the screenshots. I wonder if that line at the bottom is default on awesomeWM or is it part of a special configuration. It looks like that's actually not linux, because there is something like diskX instead of sdaX. So far I've never seen a post saying which OS that exactly might be.

@matrix - most of the lines at the bottom of the screen look like the interface you see for terminal applications like mc, ranger, tmux, emacs etc ... Some of that networking output could be awesome widgets.
@dobbie - thanks, that's an awesome wallpaper site; I use it all the time.
openbox, no frills (transparancy for screenshots only):

Arch running GNOME (without PulseAudio, hence the lack of volume icon):
PowerShell ftw! 8o
EDIT: note the fish-style on-the-fly syntax highlighting, isn't it just awful?

Generally, I like the darker themes, they are easier on my eyes. Came across the awesome Icydark gtk and OpenBox themes, and have been using them since. Malys Uniblue icons, the tint2 config is a modified version of the one that ships with the Cathexis theme pack, and the fonts are Unispace, Zekton and Xirod.
