Vacillated back to the light variant:
Also experimenting with x11/dstat (top-right, in the panel), I've modified the source from the ports tree — just an added a bullet point in the date & time as a proof-of-concept — and I think I can strip it right back to just what I need (it's too busy for my taste at the moment).

@brontosaurusrex: Thanks. It's been _nitrogened_. Looking good.

Nice sshot! I like the local weather/temperature in your tint2 panel. Can you share the script and tint2rc file? Thanks in advance.
Weather script is taken from this site with a slight modifications (removed second line, and changed locale of course). Today I've noticed it doesn't have icons for many weather conditions ("slight drizzle myst" looks awful written in taskbar) so I've left only temperature field.

You will need to install "Ostrich Sans" font. Colors are residue from my previous config, but they don't matter much since I've set transparency as a core motif for this look.
Señor Chang, why do you teach Spanish?

This is mine. Look familiar?
It's Lubuntu by the way and yes I know it's sad.

Sadly.. XP was the last time I actually liked Windows.

polybar overlayed on top of spectrwm bar until I get around to writing a polybar module to indicate the desktop.
I have a desktop script for Polybar if you would like it.

^ Thanks - up on your git page? I'll take a look at it; always good to see how others implement stuff.
I actually have what I need, just hadn't put it in the config at the time.
