even with all of that disabled, the page still manages to work? That's true of many web pages, and should of course be the norm.
^ This.
I always have noscript enabled and sites that actually work are the exception rather than the rule, sadly.

I like the Life B4 and the Life R5 but they don't sell phones like that here any more (at least at the phone companies). Noooo they want to 'trap you' into a Smart Phone where they can suck your wallet dry with all the 'hidden' options.
Someone phones us, we missed it so they leave a message, to listen to our voice box = extra $$$ That RIDICULES! Well, no good bad business on their end.
But then if I phone my MIL, on the land line, that lives, literally, across the street, they start charging us the second the phone starts to ring!
I need a phone to phone home or have home phone me. The kitchen sink is where it should be, in the kitchen.

^ Can't you buy a decent pay-as-you-go "burner" phone in Buenes Aires? Sounds like you're getting ripped off.
Getting back on topic, perhaps a Google phone isn't such a bad idea after all. ]:D

Yes, we can. I can go to a place like "Pxxxxx Phones" and buy a dumb or semi-dumb phone and they will sell me a chip and set it up with a phone line (sometimes that is 'stolen' as well - quick call to a crooked employee and BINGO!). But you pay "PrimeDime" for anything you do on that phone and have to re-charge it almost daily. Plus if/when they find that it's stolen you loose it. People are getting tired of buying "stolen" phones and then loosing them. Obviously there are people that buy them by the six-pack, use them for a little while and toss them. But I'm not doing business on the black market.
=== True Story ===
Here's the thing, people are leery of these phone as "stolen", and the 'chips' as well. When we bought our vacuum, many years ago, and you read that right: a vacuum not a phone, the store, a reputable electronics store, Garbarino, offered us "6 free chips for a 'Personal' cell phone". A promotion they had going and because we had made a purchase these six chips, phone numbers included, were automatically registered to her.
Obviously my wife took them, and "I" destroyed them - cut those suckers up ASAP on getting home. Thought that was the end of it but a couple of years later my wife gets a bill that showed she had 6 other phones, in her name and address, in various locations in Argentina and the total amount owed was $$$$$$$!!!! We went ballistic! It took us forever to get it straightened out.
My wife keeps everything, the bill from the vacuum, showed the 'registered' chips and phone numbers. Of course we told Personal about that as well, since the numbers matched. We have not been back to Garbarino since.
=== END ===
No, we buy phones from the proper companies now. BTW, we are 'Personal' customers and my wife has been since before she met me.

^ Man, if I were in your shoes, I'd either not use a phone at all or emigrate. 8)

I hear you. My wife has regulated the phone to: us phoning home, if I'm out alone I take the phone, if we go out it's in her purse in case of an emergency. OH and SMS messages, those cost nothing at all. She, by her choice, uses no other function on the phone, has downloaded a couple of wallpapers and nothing else.
Mind you buying her a 10" tablet that she has a fake G account on, zero contacts, no G calendar info etc etc has helped. She plays games on it and checks out the web but like the PC, has no "social media" added.
My wife is Argentina so moving isn't going to happen. I've learned to live with the place over the past 17 years. It's getting better - or at least I tell myself that.

^ It sounds like you've made the best out of tricky situation. Instead of getting frustrated or angry, say instead, "It's a wonder!" I'll be saying for sure over the next 4 years, if not longer.... 8o

My sister once called me the Marco Polo of the family. I've had to adapt to different locations all my life. In fact the longest I have ever lived in one 'city' is here in Buenos Aires, 17 years. The longest I have lived under one roof is this apartment, 7 years.
I've grown accustomed to being here and dealing with people. So yea, I've learned to make the best of a sticky situation, BUT every now and then a new one pops it's ugly head over the horizon.
Check my new sig!

I've lived in so may places Google Maps needs a separate server just to show them.
