Re: October 2015 Screenshots

@fog - awesome work again

@ragamatrix - I've tried echinus, another nice wm.

Speaking of nice window managers, something new for me:

Re: October 2015 Screenshots

@hhh:
- I want full control, with minimum unknowns or unknown unknowns.
- I tend to think I know a lil-bit about audio (for example pacpl seems to install audio-normalizer, which is like knowledge from some other century)
- Flac and Lame specialized script can be short and cute and easily managed.
- My perl-foo is non-existant.
- man pacpl is 200 times longer than my entire script
- I wanted to keep that lame vbr graph (purely cosmetic reasons)
- I wanted to find out (and control) how lame exactly changes the # of samples (still not understanding that)
- I'd probably find more

(But yeah, there are plenty of one-liners all over the internetz)

Re: October 2015 Screenshots

^Thanks, I was curious. pacpl WFM and supports a truckload of formats but I'm always on the lookout for other ways of doing things. normalize-audio is just a recommends, it's not required.

I got BL RC1 up and running on my Precision M4400. One of my favorite laptops ever.

I still have a few more apps to install and some tweaks to make, but I am very happy so far. Arch can go suck an egg. I don't want to spend a lot of time setting up my machine. I want to spend a lot of time using it.

Thanks.

The quote on the top left is actually a conky that pulls random fortunes, formats it and sticks it there.

If you want to install Arch easily, try Architect Linux. No need to go Arch-bashing.

Actually, that's Teo's work, I just support the scripts and play with them because Teo created them.

Re: October 2015 Screenshots

Since we don't have an official conky thread on the BL forums yet, I will post the code here as it does relate to my screenshot.

Quotes conky:

# Text alignment, other possible values are commented
alignment top_left
#alignment top_right
#alignment bottom_left
#alignment bottom_right

# Create own window instead of using desktop
own_window yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_pager,skip_taskbar

own_window_type normal

# Use pseudo transparency with own_window?
own_window_transparent yes

# If own_window_transparent is set to no, you can set the background colour here

background no

# Use double buffering (reduces flicker, may not work for everyone)
double_buffer yes

# Add spaces to keep things from moving about? This only affects certain objects.
use_spacer yes

minimum_size 400 750 width | height
maximum_width 400

The right hand conky is mostly my work, vastly cleaned up by Sector11 and of course with the 1a_weather conky stuff from whatshisname. Here is the code for that conky. Note that it supports 4 cores, but this machine is dual core so I disabled 2 of the core reports.

Much credit is due to Sector11 for helping me out and for the creater of the weather scripts. In the spirit of open source, huggy feely touchy shary, enjoy. It's as much the community's work as mine.

@MODS: We need a new dedicated conky area here on BL due to #! going read only soon.
