@damo, Great find/render! (but I have to ask, did you ever consider using slight DOF?)

It does have a slight blur in the foreground (added in post-process). I experimented with DOF in MB, but couldn't achieve what I wanted. I need more practise wink

^ That red is quite hypnotizing. Quite a wide-screen you have there.

Oh, so there are two screens? I thought possibly it was the same screen "before" and "after". I meant that the aspect ratio of each image is quite wide in relation to height.

Two things:
- Can you share that wallpaper?
- Did you try h.265 playback on this thing? (* H.265 4K/60FPS and H.264 4K/30FPS capable VPU)

@Head_on_a_Stick
Stock Ubuntu Mate 64bit.
This box is performing very well as a desktop system. I would say it performs on a par with the XU4 for light desktop duties and is also silent - no cpu fan.

It doesn't have 2D acceleration and you can't use glamor. It also only supports EGL so you can only use graphics with EGL backend pleasantly. I.e. compton et all are useless; you need a recent kwin or clutter/mutter window manager with proper EGL support. Or wayland (with sway or something). Non-3D X11 sucks (it has been a while since I've seen a xterm run so slow). It doesn't help that it can drive 1920x1200 displays, or even 4K with that (looks just worse).

It's also stuck on kernel 3.14 for now because of a lack of support for the brand new aarch64 in mainline Linux until recently and because of proprietary graphics drivers (Mali GPU).

It packs a lot of computing power though, so as a kind of file server that drives a stack of USB hard drives it's useful. Or for kiosks or monitoring dashboards (my use case for it), or small embedded projects (usual array of GPIO pins). It runs quite hot though even without much load so you probably don't want to bury it in some kind of device. For the price you can't go wrong however.

EDIT: Back on topic, OpenBSD-current running the stock fvwm desktop:

Fresh install, needs tweaking.

@brontosaurusrex

Using the pre-installed Kodi media center I was able to play a selection of h.265 files flawlessly;
http://www.libde265.org/downloads-videos/
Big Buck Bunny and Sintel at different resolutions play stable video and audio.

Re: August 2016 Screenshots

Here's an older one of the same laptop I am using right now. Since I just re-purposed this machine as my linux computer there's a few things I want to re-create. Namely 95% of what's in this screenshot. So while I am *mostly* up and running, I'm having some alignment issues that i'll sort later but aren't pretty and don't want to show yet. But everything else is pretty much the same. Wallpaper, conky's (2 of them, I'm missing some), haven't tweaked Tint2 yet and so on and so forth.

Later on this week which will be in the Sept thread I'll post my WIP to date. But yeah, this is what I'm shooting for again. I miss this setup.
