Now we can get this thread back on track ... yes yes, I know, I'm guilty I admit it, but it was that chair, that beautiful chair, my butt could almost imagine ozzzzziiinnnggg into that chair!  big_smile

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

Here’s my desk. I’ve only recently bought the desk as I’ve started CCNA study & wanted a proper workspace. Monitor is 27in and is connected to a Raspberry Pi v3 running Raspbian (for now)

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

My desktop normally never looks like this (just 1 computer), but this is actually work in progress.

  • still in the process of setting up my pinebook (replaced armbian's very pleasant xfce desktop with a plain openbox login etc.)

  • i have only one micro sd card sufficiently large to install a distro on the pinebook. now that is done, the netbook to the right dd's the previously dd'd backup back onto the card (my desktop doesn't have a card reader)

  • the big one is (almost) always on anyways, it's the mothership for listening to music & drones, quick web research and just, erm, usage.

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

Here is mine. I don't use an actual desk because I like to sit on the sofa while I type. So it's just a fold out table.

Good to read about Pinebook, thx! It looked like an interesting project and a fairly cheap device. However it's not that cheap in the end... Actually it's pretty expensive. I like the fact that there is no fan (=no noise) but it's sad that the Battery time is disappointing... And reading about closed source drivers is disappointing too. Somehow I thought it might work without proprietary software. Btw what happened to your website? Just saw a notice about lost data.

That's exactly what I use my computer for too: just, erm, usage.

Thank for my morning chuckle.

i must admit it's not all that bad.
it depends so much on usage; currently i'm testing how long i can leave it on (or on suspend, but not actually off) - incl. some light usage, more than 24 hours.

Btw what happened to your website? Just saw a notice about lost data.

haven't you seen my contributions to the "what was the most stupid thing you did on linux" thread?

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

^Oh, I just checked. "neither extundelete nor photorec nor testdisk managed to recover my blog" - I guess it was an ext4 partition. If there is content still missing, which was used to be online, you could also try the waybackmachine. One of the best - and most useful - sites on the internet.

Btw that's really a strange issue: "somehow" those files just got deleted. I feel your pain as I recently almost lost some data by simply copying them. I'm still not sure about the true cause - probably some mess up with spacefm and mountntfs - but suddenly I noticed that there were folders without content that I could not delete on linux (not even in terminal) and the copy process was very slow. Those folders I just moved from an other HDD, so on that disk they were already deleted too. As they were ntfs disks, I switched to windows -> it showed that there is something wrong -> time for chkdsk. It restored those files and folders, but: All the file content was messed up. Could not play mp3s, opening .txt showed gibberish. In the end I managed to find the folders through file recovery on the first disk, however there were no names, all those files were called something like .hidden_fuseblabla0123. So on the second disk I had the correct names for my jazz albums but with corrupted content - on the first disk I had the real content but with corrupted names. I had to manually correct the names of dozens of mp3s from Count Basie to Miles Davis...

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

^Well, it was/is famous somewhat as there are three snapshots on the wayback-machine! I also found some sites via google-cache. Actually g* might have all the lost content, although it's not available anymore for "normal" users.

One of these days I will post a "proper" desktop shot.  I have a new monitor to show off.

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

Very tidy indeed! It matches your computer desktop style. smile

I'm making the most of my ghetto apartment, I created a cozy spot.

20190414_014829.md.jpg

OS: BL Lithium

Desktop: KDE Plasma 5.14

Beer: Sweetwater IPA (Atlanta, GA) https://sweetwaterbrew.com/brews/sweetwater-ipa/

Cigarettes: Marlboro

It's weird, I have one with coffee in the morning, maybe two if I have nowhere to be, then I go all day without smoking. Then one beer in the evening and Bam! I am smoking with my beers, dammit.

interesting details there... that wrench?!
if i may ask, how do you deal with daylight when computing? there seems to be a lot of it on that picture. do certain monitors fare better than others?

mine hasn't really changed at all since my last picture...

Blowing one's mind is never good for concentration. Everything seems to have found its place. Lots of daylight or any kind of general lightning is fine; I've never understood, what is so fantastic in working in the dark.

I like that large pad. What is that light gray rectangular object beneath the shelf?

Gotta have a socket wrench at hand at all times!

Yeah I have a window right next to my computer, it has no effect on the screens as it is on the north side of the house.

Very nice h3!
Thank you, I try to be tidy big_smile

That is one of my external HDD's.  It's getting on a bit, its a Grandpa when it comes to computer hardware.
