Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

Nah, my usual keyboard is actually OSXish (those rubbers) with premiere-pro shortcuts pictures.

p.s. The reason for the experiment is that kids are doing lots of powerpoint (school) stuff on tablet and I think they might like keyboard in those cases.

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

^ I'll always be of the opinion that any physical keyboard (including the so-much-too-reduced-that-10yo-fingers-would-find-cramped wallet keyboard that I use with my slab) will always be superior to a "virtual" keyboard, even if the slab gives haptic feedback.  Vibration after-the-fact can't hold a candle to tactile-y finding the key before the keypress!  (Your rubber dome keyboards are perfectly fine IMHO; I've lived with them for many years before getting my clicky-clicky, and their lower price point makes them a better value for anyone who isn't heavily into coding or planning on QWOPping into Mordor.)

OT:  If someone can point me to a study on touch typing with virtual keyboards that shows a better wpm vs. tpyo rate (typo intentional) over physical keyboards, please point me to it and I'll gladly buy a hat so that I can eat my hat.

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

Time to assemble my old clanky desk again. It's now my new lab for rainy days:
btZ6uq2D.jpg
I got a new toy for free, an Acer Aspire that went crunch!bang! on forced Win 10 upgrade. Its owners took it to the seller who sold them a new one. I told them not to toss the old machine away. I named it aspirine because of all the headache Windows 10, Acer bloatware and recovery partitions already gave me while

  1. finishing upgrade (there was absolutely nothing wrong, all I had to do was push the power button)

  2. recovering factory settings

  3. cleaning up Win 7

  4. upgrading to Win 10

  5. resizing partitions and removing recovery partitions

to be able to dual boot with Jessie XFCE.

Old eeePC 901 serving humbly in the background. Those diapositive slides under the desk will go in the scanner later in autumn.

Same old: family information center in living room.

I carried tin plate desk out of the study and replaced it with an extendable dining table. Now there's more space to make a mess.

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

I've been planning to make a decent laptop stand since when, but never got it done. Yesterday I got tired of bending my neck down, so here's the quick solution: last years diary, a piece of string and a waste piece of batten. It's not going to be permanent, I hope. I promise to make a better one... sometime...

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

I think it looks pretty stylish!
at least the book cover + the string.
the wooden bit needs styling.

is the whole contraption rickety?

PS:

a waste piece of batten

are you sure you got that right?

A thin, straight piece of wood: molding/moulding, cleat, batten, pick whatever you like.

is the whole contraption rickety?

It's in balance and carries the weight of lappie.

Bronto is right, it's supposed to be just a prototype.

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

@nore - Laptop stand

I like it, prototype or not.

Replace "last years diary" with two "hinged" pieces of wood and use the same 'twine' and 'batten' (screwed into place) - burn the wood a little in various places then varnish and you've got a winner with a rustic look.

Just MHO!

I do love my keyboard.  Archlabs too.

Two of those phones don't work (I just updated from my Nexus 6 to a iPhone 7).

You have to keep your work area clean too. One of those headphones are my wifes, my desk seems to have a technology magnet attached to it.

Hope my "nothing fancy" comment didn't come off as snobish.  Compared to some setups mine is so basic.

And mine is a KinderToy compared to some of those... I've looked at 5 so far.  #1 is a killer setup ... still looking.
