Re: Post your Bunsenlabs linux system specs

Lenovo T500, a very nice (and pricey) machine when it came out nearly 10 years ago, available via Walmart and Amazon refurbished these days for $200 American. Very linux-friendly hardware.

System: Host: base Kernel: 4.3.0-0.bpo.1-686-pae i686 (32 bit)
           Desktop: MATE 1.8.1 Distro: Debian GNU/Linux 8

So much fun, ThinkPad plus Debian equals joy.

My current mix-and-match-sh*t setup is jessie running a custom MATE session... compton lxterminal leafpad thunar marco mate-panel mate-screensaver/locker mate-settings-daemon/notification-daemon xfce4-power-manager.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

The servant lifted off a kind of ottoman a long peacock-blue drapery, rather of the nature of a domino, on the front of which was emblazoned a large golden sun, and which was splashed here and there with flaming stars and crescents. “You’re to be dressed as Thursday, sir,” said the valet somewhat affably.

Re: Post your Bunsenlabs linux system specs

Recently, I successfully installed Debian and BunsenLabs on two old MacBook (Pro) devices. This inspired me to contribute to Debian proper in terms of documentation on older PC desktops and laptops. Sadly, a lot of Debian's original documentation is pre-Wheezy legacy material (kernel 2.x.x). Doubly sadly, Debian is so far ignoring my attempts to make contact and share knowledge on hardware compatibility. Therefore, I naively started this thread smile.

The idea is to post here with a rather complete description ('inxi -F' output would do) of currently used hardware. Especially, things that work without a hitch and things that don't work or work with issues. Once a sufficient number of devices is catalogued, I will approach Debian doc maintainers again. This time with concrete intel!

Below, my desktop PC setup:

System: Host: andy-home Kernel: 4.5.0-1-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit)
           Desktop: Openbox 3.6.1 Distro: BunsenLabs 8.4 bunsen-hydrogen

Things that don't work:
> TP-LINK WN823N WiFi dongle with the Realtek 8192CU adapter (following steps from: https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes is required; otherwise, the connection drops every 2-3 minutes due to power management problems or because the driver is sucky)

I will post further info with my MacBook devices later on smile. I hope someone is willing to contribute.

Mod Note: Merged with pre-existing `inxi -F` thread.

Installed Debian 8.4 netinstall with nonfree-firmware a couple of weeks ago on a box with new, cheap ASUS motherboard. The only thing that didn't work out-of-box was the Radeon R5 on-board video. (The bios setup screens, Debian install screens, the grub screen and initial tty sessions were fine, but Xorg/openbox would only display a blank screen with a white mouse pointer.) Fixed that with:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-amd64 fglrx-driver
sudo /usr/bin/aticonfig --initial
