Because Openbox won't port directly to Wayland. A bunch of work would have to be done to remake Openbox on Wayland from what I hear. Wayland is the succesor to xserver and is a much needed move forward in that regard.

i'm sorry pvsage, but where did that come from?
- isn't it still years until wayland becomes usable, and longer until debian considers it stable?
- even if; #! and bl don't use a DE - why should that change when wayland comes?
to come back to the topic at hand, i think what brontosaurusrex said in their previous post makes a lot of sense to me.
it also ties in with my previous comment: "We have a thread for .Xresources/.Xdefaults color schemes, but not for terminator color schemes."
we can discuss this til doomsday comes; i think it would be good to see what people are actually using on their systems - a poll.
if a relevant percentage felt it important enough to move from terminator to something else, then we have a winner.

Removing Terminator sounds good to me, I usually use LXTerminal.
Anyway, urxvt-bunsen-like it's a really good idea.

We're moving to sway when Wayland comes through.
Unless a better alternative come along, of course.

when will that be? (talking debian stable)

^ When it's ready!
This is all post-jessie, I would imagine.
EDIT: I mean, when jessie goes oldstable (obviously).

i was refering to wayland development, not bunsenlabs development.
my impression was that wayland is still far from replacing Xorg, esp. on debian; i might have to use my duckduck-fu to find out how far.

A tiler replacing a stacker. That might be a lot of a change for many Openbox lovers. Anyway. I've being constantly hearing that wayland is coming since I landed in linux three years ago and still keeps coming and never arrives. It must be coming from a very distant galaxy or something. LOL. For now there's now only a few wayland WMs and DEs. IMO, the X will still last for long.
Regarding terminals, my 2 cents, A preconfigured urxvt (with perls) replacing xterm sounds really good to me. Then add tmux and you'll probably never miss terminator if you happen to remove it.

Uh-oh, I opened quite a can of worms with "the W word". :8
@ohnonot: I know that Debian Unstable already has a gnome-wayland and LXQt session available (the latter is still quite unusable and both make gtk3 look stable as granite by comparison, but they're available), and as tknomanzr pointed out, the future of Openbox in Wayland is uncertain, especially since Wayland itself is meant to do many of the things that a WM traditionally does.
@Head_on_a_Stick: I gotta admit sway has swagger.

It's already done to some extent - have a look in ~.Xresources. (The geometry's too small atm though.)

Since we sort of strayed from the main topic, what's the general consensus with this? Are we sticking with Terminator using xterm as the default?

^ As far as core packages in Hydrogen are concerned, cake is served.
(Without the Portal reference, that translates as "Yes, we're sticking with Terminator in Hydrogen".)

With Terminator, I usually find that the science gets done...
... and you make a neat gun ...
... for the people who are ...
...still alive.

The servant lifted off a kind of ottoman a long peacock-blue drapery, rather of the nature of a domino, on the front of which was emblazoned a large golden sun, and which was splashed here and there with flaming stars and crescents. “You’re to be dressed as Thursday, sir,” said the valet somewhat affably.

There is available a very nice script that adds a tiler to Openbox: Tile, .... I only use the tile and stack modes, putting a link to each mode on my panel to click whenever I want to bring order to chaos. I recommend making it a part of BunsenLab. Also, the pytile program works well with Openbox; see bottom of afteropenbox. Please, keep openbox.
