The bad news: I can't ping anything, I can't figure out what is wrong with the hosts and resolv.conf file.

Maybe the ip of the name resolution is broken.
I remember that I had to create the /etc/resolv.conf by hand to get into the network because the symlink didn't work.

Whatever it is, it doesn't matter that much now, since the port management system (they call it prt-get as a kudos to apt) works. Meaning it is rebuilding the whole system, during which I can't do anything else. I will then recompile to the newest kernel from the kernel tree, set up scrotwm and get to falling in love even more. As I said, it's serious trouble. Update on the Pi - my buddy is 3D printing a case for it as we speak. I'll post pictures when it arrives. I will likely start work on my first pacstall script tonight, time permitting.

John, thanks for the link man! What do you mean by guru?

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I've just installed the beta version of the forthcoming edition of OpenSUSE Leap, 15.6. It's admittedly early days yet but so far I can't see any problems with it as long as you stick to the standard repositories. Opi, OpenSUSE's enhanced package manager that installs programs not normally accessible from the repositories, doesn't seem to work yet though.

In summary, I think it's best to stick with 15.5 for now if you want to use Leap.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

EndeavourOS is out with a new release by the name of Gemini.  Downloading it now to test it out.  If all goes good with it I have a spot for it on my new 1TB hard drive arriving in a day or so.  :-)

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I tried to build Cosmic on my system...

https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch

I gave it up when the build had reached 23G of disk space and was still going. I think it would have taken 32 gigs to finish, screw that.

The "All Packages" and "Packages" links both time out ATM, "504".

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Recieved my 1TB hard drive yesterday and installed it in my laptop.  Spent most of the day installing distros and setting them up the way I prefer them.  Screenshot of drive with distros installed.

Yup, working now.

The "ALL PACKAGES" button is on the homepage in the "Discover Guix" section, and leads to the same link you posted.

I'm not understanding the landing page, though, it just shows a bunch of fonts. Weird way to advertise 27,000 packages.

Western Digital model: WD10JPVX-75JC3T0
size: 931.51 GiB speed: 6.0 Gb/s tech: HDD rpm: 5400

This drive (laptop) will be used for every day use.  The distros on it now will most likely not get replaced because I am satisfied with them and I have not found any other distro that in my opinion measures up to what they do for me.  I have two spare laptops, one of those is used for testing distros and the other just messing around with.  It hardly ever gets used.
