Re: covid-19 virus

On the distance a good safety for me are at least 5 meters.
they experimented on a sneeze, its particles even reached 5 meters without wind.
The mask is for everyone.
From now on, when I am in contact with other people I will always wear a mask.

When the virus becomes suspended in droplets smaller than five micrometers — known as aerosols — it can stay suspended for about a half-hour, researchers said, before drifting down and settling on surfaces where it can linger for hours.

I have to go to the grocery store. No deliveries in this backwater Texas town, even if I could afford to pay for it. I could walk through that cloud of aerosols; as I can't tell how long it's been since someone was last there. I'm wearing a mask.  The best mask I can create.

If my idea saves even one person  who is in the same situation,...

Thanks for your links. I had very similar ideas on how to apply and remove the mask. I made two so I could wear one while cleaning the other.  They're very durable, I've cleaned the one on my motorcycle many times. At $20 US, I can't afford to dispose of them. I can't find _any_ other mask. So we're back to the choice, ^ or a bandana, or nothing. A choice you side stepped instead of answering.

Option C is incomplete, all of those things and one more; survive the grocery store. Six feet away from a invisible cloud?

Re: covid-19 virus

@ glittersloth
I'm currently living in one of the original murican-freedom-yee-haw type states, Texas. But that's a story for another day. Plenty of hardly ableson riders wearing only t-shirts and sunglasses. Law requires some form of eye protection, nothing else.

I wear a full face, armored jacket and pants, knee high boots, carbon fiber knuckled gloves, ... Like any sane person who would be crazy enough to ride should. ;-) The motorcycle is my only ride, so I get to the store on it. Here's my current regimen.

Pick a sunny day.
Go early, crack of dawn. Shelves have just been restocked overnight. Less shoppers, more hours of daylight after the trip.
At the store, remove protective riding gear.
Apply plastic painters shirt and pants, footies, face mask, googles, hood, gloves-two pairs.
Prepare trash bag for return to motorcycle. Prepare backpacks for plastic shopping bags.
Carry package of butt wipes laced with copious amounts of alcohol. (Denatured alcohol used for cleaning and cooking fuel is still available until that secret gets out)
Enter store with plan to minimize time in store. At least two weeks of food is the goal. Stores are mostly well stocked so far.
Butt wipe shopping cart all around the handle end.
Butt wipe items as possible when placing in cart.
Use self checkout. Butt wipe keypad, scale, etc.
Avoid the 'Greeter' (security person) at the door on the way out. Everything in a bag so they don't need to scan any bar codes.
On the way back to the bike, remove outer layer of gloves, pitch in trash can. Butt wipe hands and for-arms. Butt wipe package of butt wipes.
Piglet <-- image of motorcycle.
Backpacks are lined with trash bags, open and waiting for plastic shopping bags.
Load shopping bags. Twist trash bags shut. Butt wipe hands. Close backpacks.
Remove painter's gear. Face mask last. Place in open trash bag. Secure trash bag. Butt wipe hands. Remove gloves allowing gloves to turn inside out. Pitch in trash can.
Apply protective riding gear.
At home:
Leave groceries on motorcycle. Protective riding gear at front door. Enter domicile, undress, cloths in washer, body in shower.
Apply gloves. Apply second mask.
Protective riding gear spread out on lawn for UVA, UVB, UVC, free from the sun. Painters gear same. The more hours of sunlight, the better.
Bring in refrigerated food first, one bag at a time.
Wash everything possible in sink of soapy water. Discard outer layer of packaging material where possible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjDuwc9 … e=youtu.be <--- Safe grocery shopping.
Bring in soiled face mask. Wash in soapy water, rinse. Spray with alcohol.
Remove face mask, wash in soapy water, rinse. Spray with alcohol.
Check for new posts on BL forum.  :-)
End of day:
Apply gloves, face mask. Bring in painters gear. Place in microwave. Nuke remaining viruses. Butt wipe exterior of microwave.
Spray mask with alcohol.
Cook fabulous meal with newly acquired grub.

Edit for spelling.

Re: covid-19 virus

^ Sounds like you're on your way to becoming a certified OpenBSD dev. Ride safe, walk fast. If there's lots of other people in the store when you get there, just picture yourself in a zombie apocalypse, or caught in a crowd of Sturgis body odor carriers. The evasive maneuvers will come naturally then.

Over in my part of the world, some people have started buying condoms for pressing lift buttons. In the country next to mine, some chap got arrested for going grocery shopping five times in a single day when the country is in semi-lockdown mode. Zany times we live in.

Still find it hilarious that social distancing is encouraged now. It's been the norm for me way before beervirus. Now it's socially acceptable. Does that make me an "influencer" I wonder?

Always telling it straight.  ;-)

Addendum to my post above. Two assumptions:
Everything outside your front door was coughed on by an infected, just moments ago.
It only takes a single virus making it into your lungs to get sick.

To make your stock of butt wipes last, bring small plastic bottle of alcohol to re-wet the current wipe.

On a personal note;  At seventy years of age, and poor lungs from fifty five years of smoking all the weed I could find, (a hippie from the mid-sixties, and a beatnik before that) I don't stand a chance against this virus. I don't mind dying, I've had my run. But not this way. Not a week of coughing up pink foam as the lungs disintegrate, until the heart gives out from overexertion. If you're not scared, you're not paying attention.

Wishing the best for all of you in this troubled time,

Same. I refuse to lose to a PansyBrandOfBeerVirus. If they named it the GuinnessVirus, then I'd consider.

Tasteless humour aside;
Like many, it's the elderly family members I'm afraid of giving it to (assuming I catch it). I'm a nobody and won't be missed.

Re: covid-19 virus

Today I heard on the radio that there's another, even more contagious pandemic spreading in the wake of Covid19 - it's called "prognosis". It seems that almost everybody has it, and they're spreading it by carelessly coughing into any microphone or online outlet they can get their hands on!

And this showed up in (my) real life - I couldn't resist cheating just a little though:

A wise man once said this*;
The only dead worth missing are those who've left behind truckloads of cash (or truffles) in your name. The rest are bloat, not worth committing to memory.

All those highly experienced Italian and French truffle hunters and truffle-hunting dog/pig trainers who've been claimed by the shittybeervirus are the ones you should be truly missing. Quality of truffles will never be the same.

Re: covid-19 virus

Some people were caught leaving their houses for
shopping during the time where leaving the houses is banned.
Governments are actively (ab)using the listings from
the mobile towers to monitor geo-locations of phones.
In US CDC and local governments use the data to monitor the movement
of the infected and the people in isolation.
In Russia there is an app and a system developed within
a few days to monitor the location of the infected and isolated.
These activities, despite having a goal to prevent the spread of virus,
also open the doors to spying on mobile users
during and long after the corona outbreak.

It's only a computer simulation, life is more complex. It does not take into account that contact with an infected does not always spread the virus. Do they wear the masks and gloves to protect others etc...

These are two things that have been worrying me increasingly in the past days.
How easily people throw (online) privacy arguments overboard inthese times.

  1. Professionals telling their employees (or students) to use known private data abusers for communication. And the recipients just gobble it up.

  2. Governments being susceptible to corporate talk about fast solutions, again: willingly ignoring private data abuse.

#1 is just inexcusible laziness and deliberate ignorance of epic proportions, because ever since Cambridge Analytica this sort of stuff is mainstream knowledge.
#2 - I was willing to cut them some slack at first, because they are trying to do the right thing in a difficult situation, but it very quickly became apparent that mobile phone tracking is not a solution (Korea & China were succesful for many other reasons besides the mobile app thing) and much less helpful than some boast. Accepting that, one cannot just dismiss the privacy implications anymore, both what is inherent (because tracking is what these apps do) and what's added on for the app provider's financial gain.
