The average population density in England (not the UK) is 424 /km²... it's one of the most highly populated countries in the world. There's a lot of "rural" areas but they are still full of people compared to a lot of places.

Don't forget, you'll need a monster truck and a rubber harness.

Huh, I just realized that there are harnesses in both the Road Warrior (the mechanic who can't walk has one, though it's not rubbery) and then of course the Thunderdome battle in Beyond Thunderdome.

And "lost in Kenya'" I'm sure means "stolen due to corruption". Why the hell else would masks for Germany be in Kenya?

Why were they shipping through Kenya? Probably because the flights are banned in some countries.
For heaven sake Poland banned the plane full with aid heading to Italy and the plane to go back and fly around Poland.
There were some posts on twitter where in Italy people started to down the EU flags and raise the Chinese flags next to Italian!

Re: covid-19 virus

Yes. That graph is embedded in this article from CBS News as well...

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jobless-cl … 020-03-26/

I hate how it compares the increase as "fivefold" from 1982. 1982?!?? Do the math for the last two weeks, you idiot reporters!!!

And in case anyone doesn't understand, that last line going straight up at the end is not a glitch, it is part of the graph. Straight up from under 400,000 new (not recurring) unemployment applications from US citizens per week to over 3 MILLION in one week, last week.

Save your money, we're in a major global recession as a result of a global pandemic. No wonder Batman has issues. Flipping bats!

Re: covid-19 virus

OPINION:

At the end of this what will we as a "race" learn from it?

In the few months that factories around the world have stopped, with less flights, less traffic and more instances of "less polluting", the planet has done a wonderful job of starting to clean/heal itself.  Clean clear water in Venice with fish again a great example.  Clean air where there was lung destroying smog.  Blissful silence where the noise use to keep people awake at night or at least, not allow for a nice restful sleep we get today.

Will we learn from it? I fear not.  We will go back to our old ways, the rich will do anything they can to get richer, the poor will get poorer.

And the planet?

Well, the planet will once again be in a death match with it's virus: humans.

Politicians will talk about doing things while helping corporations pollute in order to make more money and gain back what they have lost in the few months.

And we continue killing ourselves because it will "cost" too much to clean up our ways.  Never mind that this wakeup call that cost us 24,057 lives so far and the fact that the US has now surpassed both Italy and China in confirmed cases:

Confirmed
Cases
85,653 US = deaths: 1,290 Recovered 713
81,782 China = deaths: 3,291 - Recovered: 74,181
80,589 Italy = deaths: 8,215 - Recovered: 10,361

Re: covid-19 virus

What... Waterworld with viruses?

Is Dennis Hopper a forum member? Anyone have his phone number or email?

Is this why James Cameron has been into deep sea exploration for the last few decades? That man is consistently ahead of the curve.

Can we at least release Lithium first?

Anyway, it's not Waterworld at the moment, nor 12 Monkeys. Right now the most relevant movie sequence is the beginning of a B-movie from 1971, one that I've mentioned before. Based on the novel I Am Legend (btw, that movie sucks), written in 1954 by Richard Matheson (wish I could find the full clip)...

The Omega Man

BTW, upside down guy hanging out of his car, mouth open. It had to have partly inspired this scene from John Carpenter's The Thing (1982), don't you think?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=832UnfMJyKs

Well, whatever happens, I'm going out to the soundtrack from The Omega Man, it's a classic. Promise me you'll play it at my funeral/mass burial?

Not seen the vid, but from what I know, the measures/system South Korea (and Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, etc ... to varying degrees) put in place were derived from the lessons learned during the SARS outbreak.

I've also got a "system" in place which involves putting on a 3M face shield and hazmat suit when going to buy groceries. At least that way the hoarders will run away thinking there's an infection, leaving me to shop in peace.

Re: covid-19 virus

+1 to the positive impact this pandemic (or rather our reaction) has on the planet and also on society: people are calmer, play with their kids, out in nature...

But alas, not all is rosy, here's another way to rip off humanity while it's down: offer freebies for video conferencing & remote teaching platforms that defy every data and privacy regulation there is.

And people in sensitive occupations throwing aboard everything we achieved in the last decade (privacy & online security wise) with such nonchalance. Teachers and even local governments telling (not asking) students & parents to use Skype, Whatsapp etc. and above mentioned freebies. I've seen it, black on white.

How right you are!

At the moment our grandson is with us (he is student of the 4th grade).
The teacher communicates by e-mail with the parents and gives learning tasks.
This week I get the forwarded message:

...
Finally, a surprise.
In the learning platform ANTON you can find our class xxx and
participate yourself! There are interesting courses on different subjects Tasks and games.
Of course, you and your parents must use the app
download and register. My treat. There you will also find me find.

Code and login name are included!

Now, as a responsible grandpa, I've taken care of it, what is "ANTON" ?
Sorry, ohnonot, it's in German.
But I think you'll have a "hair standing on end"   yikes

The managing director of the software has not contacted us until today...

Of course it's true!
Compare the Chinese measures vs the Korean 'unpresidented' mesaures and make your own conclusions.

I know people trust the state propaganda more in the time of crisis but it doesn't mean it's true.
