Re: What are you watching right now?

It's been getting harshed on by online critics. To political (anti-Trump, and is that *gasp* Patrick's influence?), spoils the "happy family" ethos of Rodenberry (the Federation is now suspicious and anti-... blah blah blah), Matrix special effects in the  one scene, etc...

They borrow from all sorts of science fiction, and I loved the references. Plot's moving too quickly, and too many subplots? Good, let's get this show going, this is a season-long movie and we've only seen the first 40 minutes.

I loved the production, it is really, really good in my book, and Stewart elevates everyone's acting to a point where I can watch it. Highly entertaining.

^ how on earth or for that matter the galaxy did they bring trump into a star trek show. Hopefully its not centered around US politics too much, would spoil it for me.

Avenue 5

anyone watching this?

I didnt give it much hope to start with but the comedy is not half bad, has the all annoying Karen making for good plot side track. I like wacky comedy like this, little bit dark and stupid.

I cant help but think they are poking fun at Elon Musk in this show.

Well, there's a scene where immigrant children are being held in cages.

I'm joking, it's clickbait reviewers analyzing how, in this version of Star Trek, The Federation is being portrayed ATM as isolationist and suspicious of alien races. Also [SPOILER] that Picard has resigned as a result of a Federation decision in this vein that he strongly objected to. It's not gone into depth at all (5 minutes at most) and it's just a setup for later episodes at this point, so it's a lot to project onto an hour long episode, and the premier at that, where we have no idea yet where the stories are going, which is why I'm calling it clickbait.

Definitely watch the free premier episode, I think it's cool.

Re: What are you watching right now?

^ I watched the 1st and 2nd episodes and could not see anything you mention about children in cages, unless i missed it? So far all i can gather is there is a threat of synthetic life forms made from data and the romulans have a super super secret sect that no one knows about until now.

Read the rest of my post, my next statement was "I'm joking."

So far all i can gather is there is a threat of synthetic life forms made from data and the romulans have a super super secret sect that no one knows about until now.

SPOILER!!!!!! And they have a Borg cube that they're re-engineering in some way, and that the only surviving neural imprint of even a part of Data is a cloned living-tissue android who is integral to the Romulan/Borg project, and that her twin sister, created in the cloning process, and only other partial copy of Data was just murdered in front of Picard after she found him because she had visions and then her boyfriend was brutally murdered by an unknown assassin squad during her attempted kidnapping where she ended up Bourne Identity murdering the assassins.

It's a good premier, right? I haven't seen Ep2 yet. No spoilers, please.

And one more mention for composer Jeff Russo, Exec Producer Sir Patrick Stewart and the entire cinematography/audio team. I said this was the best Star Trek I'd ever seen. I mean that is some of the best cinema that I've ever seen. The opening scene alone has levels of images, audio and dialog that achieve Blade Runner levels of perfection. The opening credits and music after that are flipping GORGEOUS!

Re: What are you watching right now?

^ its not bad, im not very pleased with how they preview the future episodes in the end credits. I was expecting episode 2 to have the details of the ending preview of episode one, but that did not happen, so as it stands im seeing previews from probably episodes 4-5 maybe 6. They are going to drag this series out to atleast 16 episodes maybe?. I would rather not know what is going to happen in future episodes, just tell the story as it comes per episode. Dont come in my face after each episode.

Re: What are you watching right now?

^ Well, I did like the Stones "Can't Get Always Get What You Want" or whatever-it's-called track for the stone scene.

Sabotage by Beastie Boys is a little played though (thanks, JJ).

Ok i can forgive eight legged freaks for being b-grade fun, but after watching the below vid, im feeling a little bit dumber. I did pick up a lot of the stupid scenes in the movie but overall i thought it was ok. This just proves it could be done a lot better.
