I quoted RT news awhile ago and got roasted by western news watching folks. Most sheeple have this insane idea that the USA and western media tells no lies!

RT lies too. Same as the western media. Both are capable of telling the true story when the story is in their interest.
When it's not the case, story is bent or completely made up.
I belive the term that is now used to describe the situation is "post true world". Like it was any different before that.

Roasted you say. I blame the reality tv. What used to be rude, uneducated and aggressive is now named "ambition". We have a lot of those people too. Like in some sort of collective hypnosis.

Btw, I saw a short film that is a good description of how journalism works. Can't find the link, from my memory it goes something like this:
- Write about what you see unusual in this landscape.
"Dark clouds are appearing in the sky".
- No, that's too depresive, write "The storm is threatening the village!"
- What if there is no storm?
- "The storm spared the village".

True. Most of us, throughout history, have only been allowed to choose between being uninformed or misinformed in the majority of situations. We try to make sound decisions, but every now and then one of us goes loco and does something completely wasteful and stupid - like driving a car into a crowd or writing a terminal app in electron.

Not majority of situations, only some really important ones.
Most people like to be informed about who did some celebrity married, where did they had dinner and who did their (cough) back massage.
We are all crazy in our own way. Some are crazy in a very destructive way and some in a very creative way.

Spot on. Ambitious to the point of recklessness.

I know the media lies on all sides, i just find it strange how much of a monopoly on both sides (left vs right, red vs blue) the human psych pivots. Its like the powers that be have concocted an eternal contest against each other through religion, sport, politics and news..(and that fake news).

Human is a subjective cosmic being. In that sense, he really should not have the desire to belong to an over-sized group because it is just an escape from freedom. Just having a family and a smaller or slightly larger circle of friends is enough. Mass and its ideology can be neither salvation nor refuge.

Well said, outsiders, boot lickers and communists perhaps? I prefer to be the outsider, im not interested in the vanity and illusion of the society im forced to live in and i sure as shit aint gonna suck up to the powers that be in whatever guise they are in.

Re ecosia search thing - Sounds interesting. All of the search engines I have used up until now are accessed with just a URL. (Mainly google and startpage) Does anyone know why ecosia needs a special "free extension" - and thus only available for a limited set of browsers?

Ecosia wrote:

The following browsers include Ecosia as a search option:

    Adblock Browser
    Browser 4G
    Brave
    Cliqz
    Crusta
    Full Screen Private Browser
    K-Meleon
    Lucid Launcher
    Maxthon
    Pale Moon
    Polarity
    Smart Search
    Snowbunny
    Snowhaze
    Vivaldi
    Waterfox

I don't need a specific extension for Pale Moon, other than the Ecosia search engine. Are you using an Apple device? It needs to be enabled in FF I think.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Thanks for the replies. My impression that I needed an "extension" was based on what I read on their website, "https://info.ecosia.org/" , where the first thing it says is:

Plant trees while you search the web. Use the profit .... get the free browser extension and plant trees with every search.

Underneath which is a button labeled "Add Ecosia to Firefox".

But eight.bit.al's tip, to use https://www.ecosia.org/?ref=icon-search,  works fine smile.

Thanks!

...!

It just adds a Search engine to the dropdown list in the searchbar.

The carbonation is perfect, the alcohol content is quite low for a thick beer, and it has chocolate undertones. The Breakfast of Champions, it is liquid bread. Guinness is good food. Guinness makes you strong.

Seems that Hyperbola is switching out the Linux kernel for a hard fork of OpenBSD.

I won't comment on the technical pro/cons of this, but anyone who remembers Stallman's duplicitous reasoning back in the day for not including OpenBSD in "FSF-approved" list has got to find this news hilarious.
