Anyone installed something Android onto a computer partition ?

Just been contemplating doing this for whatever dorkish reason. Things such as these. Supposedly being Android-ish OS's intended for desktop. Just seems like it could be interesting, this ancient laptop doesn't support virtualization either so wonder what this type of setup could do on bare-metal ? Ok gals n guys, hope you're all doing well here.

I have Remix OS running on a Nexus10, and rather like it. It (Nexus 10) multi boots (sort of) 4 OSes.

Re: Anyone installed something Android onto a computer partition ?

Thanks 8bit was beginning to wonder if my posts were invisible fellow nixer. tongue Quick googling said RemixOS got discontinued but it's still available for a reasonably trusted source for download ? Personally am of course looking for something which has the Google Play store enabled out-of-box here. Haven't firmly settled on which of these desktop android things to try out. Still think it's a cool project though. smile

Re: Anyone installed something Android onto a computer partition ?

https://forum.xda-developers.com/ is the place to look for ROMs, but that's mostly (only?) for phones and ARM based tablets.

For x86(64) there isn't much.

https://osdn.net/projects/android-x86/releases/ - CyanogenMod/LineageOS for x86 and Android x86

I checked out the link in your first post:
Samsung DeX requires hardware I don't have, (and most ppl don't have) But it looks cool.
Phoenix OS - the iso wouldn't boot on my plain Jane setup. Not sure if I want to try the windoze exe installer on my W10 tablet.
MaruOS is for phones.

Another thanks, your feedback saved me time and pain. smile May well not even get around to this proj, it's been on the list more than once and have yet to do it. No doubt have some info on the topic in a file somewhere though. smile

I am sure if you have some old-ish phone you want to use to play with these ROMs (would not want to wipe out a perfectly good new phone yet). Having real Linux on phone would be the holy grail, but the problem usually boils down to closed source drivers for the various phone components.

Android on Intel/AMD would be awesome though, so that I can use Android apps on my big rig.

A touch based OS on a KB/mouse setup can be frustrating.
Like Gnome, finding an app in five pages of giant icons is madding.

Could see what you're saying 8bit. Was assuming anyone dev'ing/maintaining an Android mix meant for desktop use would take steps to address that issue. Though that was/is just an assumption on my part. smile
