[SOLVED] Getting really low speeds from kelaino.bunsenlabs.org

Hi, when running apt update && apt upgrade, all other packages update really fast but package upgrades download really slow from kelaino.bunsenlabs.org,  it gives around ~20KiB/s speeds.

Is anyone here facing the said issue or is it just me?

No problem here(UK). I'm getting about 30ms for a ping.

Have you tried the Asian repo? asia.pkg.bunsenlabs.org is about a fifth of the speed if I try it from here, but Mumbai to Singapore is likely to be much faster.

Unfortunately asia.pkg.bunsenlabs.org won't have the experimental packages in the kelaino repo. (I think)

I've been getting slow downloads from kelaino too and just assumed it was something to be put up with, till the official Lithium comes out.

If you can get the experimental packages via the asia. URI please let me know!

Only the main repositories listed here https://www.bunsenlabs.org/repoidx.html are synced to asia.pkg.bunsenlabs.org, so your experimental repos are not among them. Due to the nature of the repo management, merging the both without resigning all packages with the master repo key probably won't work (well -- I think reprepro supports different signing keys per distro though).

If you'd like them getting synced I could sync them to

https://asia.pkg.bunsenlabs.org/~johnraff/debian

as well.

The connection to kelaino is slow from asia because the route to the Hetzner AS it takes by default is very bad by virtue of going through the Tata network someplace in India, the packet loss is through the roof. Their network is crap.

If you force your packets over the Americas things will work well with kelaino too smile Although nearer nodes like asia.pkg.bunsenlabs.org are best for latency and speed. The reason asia.pkg.bunsenlabs.org exists because when I spent my 2 years in Japan, it became clear I needed it smile

I'm not finding the slow kelaino connections intolerable - most of our packages are quite small - but if you could do that relatively easily it would of course be appreciated. But for a purely experimental repo don't go to a lot of trouble.

Easy! Now available at https://asia.pkg.bunsenlabs.org/~johnraff/debian. It syncs hourly (usually first half of the hour) from kelaino to asia.
