Linus Torvalds isn't worried about Microsoft taking over Linux

Aaawww, how touching. Maybe they'll make a movie about it one day. Will be in the running for multiple Oscars alongside the usual gamut of "life affirming" films that feature geriatrics overcoming limps and teenagers overcoming lisps.

Re: Linus Torvalds isn't worried about Microsoft taking over Linux

How nice it all sounds when you put it that way...
I'll agree on one thing: there's no point in continuously spreading mountains of FUD.
And:

In the most recent 2017 State of Linux Kernel Development report, those companies are, in order: Intel, Red Hat, Linaro, IBM. Samsung, SUSE, and Google. Each has its own itch and each tries to scratch it as well as they can. While some unpaid volunteers -- 8.2 percent in 2017 -- work on Linux, the kernel is largely the work of developers working for corporations.

8.2%! That's not much.
Strangely, MS is not listed there, but then again that was 2017...

But:

Helsinki is a costal capital. It's most important route of ingress is a highway coming in from the west, along the coast.
One of the most prestigious sites along that highway, seen by all traffic coming in or out of Helsinki, was NOKIA's main office.
Except, then it became Microsoft Finland's main office.
I pass that building twice every day, and every time it reminds me that Microsoft's "embrace, extend, and extinguish tactics" is very real and not to be underestimated.

Youngest example: github.com. It's already getting worse.

I actually like github a lot better than gitlab.... but then I'm old and cranky. wink

trying to lure you into more paid options, actually keeping certain features from non-paying customers, pushing some sort of agenda, using it to demonstrate how much they "love opensource"...
too lazy to gather all the proof now, but it's out there.

I know the old github had paid options too, but I always had the feeling they weren't pushed on average hobbyist coders like me.

^That all sounds a bit nebulous to be honest. Anyway, if you're too lazy to find something specific, I can't really bother to pursue it. 90% of my work with git is on the terminal - I only visit GitHub for the vendor-specific stuff like "issues" - so I haven't yet been able to notice any change since the MS takeover.

God, Drew Barrymore is no teenager, and neither is Emma Stone. And if you can fix Rudy Giuliani, just his speech impediments, you are a God. I could handle the lies if I didn't also have to hear him simultaneously gargle, sneeze, and talk while licking a cat. Please, make this happen!

-edit- Drew Barrymore is getting a daytime talk show. Can her first guests please be Emma Stone, Tom Brokaw and Rudy Giuliani?

Apologies to those who suffer from speech impediments. You're strong, you can take it.

Drew: Stho, Tom. What'th your latetht interetht?

Tom: I'm currentgly glistening to a guttersglob podcast, the guy is phenominaglglgl.

Emma: Fantathstic, even?

Rudy: GLIETHSphz! ALGLL TOTAGLrlrl GLIETHSpfz!

WTF did I just watch? I know it was the 2011 movie The Smurfs and that was Sofía Margarita Vergara Vergara (yes, that's her full name), but... What the fuck did I just watch?

Never mind, don't answer that. What a great clip to play, misko.
