I experiment with views of the earth your script is very nice but my configs are a total mess.... I also found one that seems to offer an image of the earth with a fairly up-to-date cloud map of acceptable quality. What do you think of this site:
xplanet-site
twisterx
menu
[EDIT] Not sure if it's very reliable. ^ (the cloud map..) hmm

Re: September 2019 Screenshot Thread

^ Your terminal needs some padding on the sides. Other that that, this looks slick as heck!! I've never actually sat down and given MATE* a proper go before. Used to have the Linux Mint version installed on my mom's system (since replaced with Zorin), but it tended to look more like 'classic' Windows. Your scrot looks more Gnome-ish, in a good way. How're the keybinds on MATE like? Can it be fully keyboard driven?

*How does one pronounce MATE anyway? I've heard some pronounce it like the equivalent for friend (eg: "g'day mate" in twangy accent), while others say it like that South American beverage all the footballers drink.

Pretty sure I read somewhere on their web page that it's the latter.
Makes sense, all programs have been renamed spanish, too.

Re: September 2019 Screenshot Thread

@glittersloth

It's pronounced like the beverage Yerba Mate.  It's not really keyboard driven like a tiler or box but it has a keybindings app so you can do stuff with it.  A tricked out rofi does wonders for app launching.  I haven't ever tried tiling with bindings or anything like that.  It's light as hell on resources though since it's a gnome2 fork with most of the memory leaks fixed.  You gotta think back when gnome2 was king, specs were really low.  It idles around 600mb with eye candy.

What I've been stepping in today..

I asked because I've lately been using Gnome 3/Shell a fair bit and find it surprisingly good at mouseless life. Not as heavily keybind driven as a tiler obviously, but with a few keybind tweaks (plus the Vimium plugin for Firefox), I've been able to do my regular basic computing surprisingly well without reaching for the cursor. Just wondering if I could achieve the same on MATE. Btw, does Ubuntu MATE shove Snap versions of default apps down out throat the same way standard Ubuntu does?

Nothing wrong with that. I still obstinately refuse to say "guh-nome". Just sounds guh-narly to me.

Tell me about it; I have seen such horrors on LQ, newbs with weird, unexplainable permission and/or performance problems - most recent: their 10-year-old laptop regularly grinds to a full halt just because they installed gnome-calendar and gnome-shell as a snap (and why can't I share the calendar with evolution?).
And then try to explain to them that having the latest version does not make their systems safer.
I am rambling...

Re: September 2019 Screenshot Thread

@sloth

It has 3 snaps installed by default.  The software boutique, welcome, and pulsemixer.  All can be removed and not even noticed if you use apt on the command line for everything.  None of the mate applications are snapped.

I don’t really care for snaps for free software but I think they are great for confinement with proprietary software to keep them from phoning home.
