[SOLVED]Repositories not showing in Synaptic

Two issues, I don't know if they are related.
1. Synaptic won't show my repositories. Until I dismissed it I did get the "Repositories have changed please reload" message even after reloading.

2. When I do sudo apt-get update all seems fine until the end when I get the following warning..

W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/debian/ bunsen-hydrogen/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/pkg.bunsenlabs.org_debian_dists_bunsen-hydrogen_main_binary-amd64_Packages)
W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/debian/ bunsen-hydrogen/main i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/pkg.bunsenlabs.org_debian_dists_bunsen-hydrogen_main_binary-i386_Packages)
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

However those sources are not in those files in /var/lib/apt/lists/

Any ideas?

How *exactly* did you install BunsenLabs?

What is the output of:

sudo dpkg --print-foreign-architectures

Re: [SOLVED]Repositories not showing in Synaptic

I'll take a guess that this was a netinstall script installation...

deb file:///var/local/debs ./

@johnraff is away till the weekend, so you might have to wait till then for more precise help.

Those PPA entries throw up a red flag.

One thing you could try is to back up your current sources.lists(s), create a new one and add sources one-by-one till you find the culprit. For the Bunsen sources, use this entry...

deb http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/debian bunsen-hydrogen main

http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/#bunsen-hydrogen

Re: [SOLVED]Repositories not showing in Synaptic

Looks to me like an upgrade from the upgrade script that userx-built. It is no longer maintained and has already been reported to be broken by at least one person.

Can confirm this does not look like Johnraff's netinstall. I think tknomanzr is right.

Re: [SOLVED]Repositories not showing in Synaptic

Yes I upgraded from Crunchbang to Bunsen/Jessie by the userx-bw's method last July and then about 2 weeks ago on the release of RC1 I did the repository upgrade as in twoion's post " advice "For current users of Alpha 2:"
RC1 Announcement

So this probably isn't a bug but a bit of a mess from the odd upgrade path, do you think?

I'm afraid there may be some problems, yes.

For now, just delete the duplicate lines in your sources (and those Ubuntu PPAs [1]) and run `apt-get update`

You may want to consider re-installing with the BunsenLabs live ISO to ensure future system stability & reliability.

Most probably sad That script was never "approved" by the BL devs, despite the commendable enthusiasm of the originator, and there have been many warnings about it.

Re: [SOLVED]Repositories not showing in Synaptic

To add those webupd8 java PPAs did you have to add python-software-properties?

See here:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/question … 175425621/
- mentions software-properties interfering with synaptic.

Perhaps uninstalling uninstall python-software-properties will work. Do you have anything to lose?

Done that and the warning message at the end of apt-get update has gone.  Still no repositories available in Synaptic though.

Nearly red.
uninstalled python3-software-properties

Now synaptic repositories are displayed. I will mark as SOLVED.

This doesn't occur in a clean BL install and the actual synaptic from the repos.

Please post the output of

lsb_release -a
type -a synaptic

Are you sure that 'synaptic' is not symlinked or aliased to 'software-properties-gtk' as I gather from the output? If that is the case: software-properties-{gtk,kde} not working is a known issue which arises from BL identifying itself as "BunsenLabs" and not "Debian". The broken software-properties-* packages do not work because they special-case APT distributions (IMHO not a very wise decision). The bug is not ours, it's theirs.

If you want to continue using software-properties-gtk, purge the package 'bunsen-os-release' from your system. This will restore the default 'Debian' system identification. software-properties will work fine then.
