Occam's Razor

That is essentially a live version of Toad-O Line from Joe's Garage, '97. Only better, and live.

Eighties band guitar-drum-band challenge. King Crimson vs The Police, this will be close...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiS2LZhLvYw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c01jjSwX7s
Winner by a hair, The Police (Stewart Copeland is incomparable with that band).

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Eighties ska/pop/punk contest, The Police vs The Clash

Police, De Do Do Do

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v2GDbEmjGE

Clash, Lost in the Supermarket

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsrEAWcAvRg

Winner, The Clash. Better lyrics and better production/artistry.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Best eighties dub reggae, The Clash or Black Uhuru...

The Clash - Ghetto Defendant

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raGsgsuPFAw

Black Uhuru - Fit You Haffe Fit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZphQcdqRJA

Not really fair. You could put Steel Pulse Rollerskates up against a dozen Sly and Robbie jams from then and come up short every time.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

A dozen Sly and Robbie jams, in no particular order, mostly from the 70s and 80s.

Grace Jones - Walking In The Rain (1978)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifhcWeXIOZs

Black Uhuru - Chill Out (1982)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X65IYbYPgs

Sly and Robbie on Letterman, 1985

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Padjp3Fhnhg

This...

Newish, with Michael Rose

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CUp-ENKtIU

Newish, with Grace Jones (must hear, this jam is awesome)

Posting these before I lose them.

From an old cassette tape, the Hot Buttered Soul LP by Isaac Hayes. Check out the Wikipedia article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Buttered_Soul

He also has a film out with someone, I think I read. This is the new album I also read about, a week or two ago? Very cool.

And I'm laughing my behind off. This is the second review on iTunes that appeared, it's 2 stars...

I completely disagree, this is songwriting that only Yorke and Bjork (the most pretentious band ever!) and a few others do, freeform verses, choruses are optional or maybe just instrumental, with incredible percussion, chord progressions and production.

But I completely see where that review is coming from, he's fed up with artsy-fartsy!

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I bought that CD in 1980 when the audio quality was still crap! My friend had it on cassette, though, recorded by him from vinyl so he wouldn't have to keep wearing down the vinyl, and that was a very good recording on his tape-deck/setup. A bit wobbly bass, due to the limitations of Maxell Gold cassettes (remember?), but still damn good. The tape unit, Technics, I think, had those cool EQ level displays in aqua and red that would hang at peaks for a half-second, damn that was great. 1980-1981.

BTW, that friend was Mark Ferranti, bassist of Bim-Skala-Bim (from Boston, MA)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bim_Skala_Bim

The last time I saw that man was in 1990 when I left Boston. Damn, good times.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Mark was also the first to play me, on that same tape-deck, the dub version of Bob Marley's Jammin, I'd guess that was in 1981 or early '82, though it might have been a couple of years earlier. Going back quite a ways...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

After that I was on my own, and that led to three recordings.

Steel Pulse - True Democracy (1982)

And then quickly to Sly and Robbie, with Black Uhuru - Dub Factor (Chill Out remix) and Grace Jones - Nightclubbing

That video and audio for Corporate Cannibal is supreme. Name a better reggae album since that one in 2008.

If ever I was to get back into audiophile equipment, it would be to hear this track properly. Grace Jones - Hurricane (2008)

-edit- Put decent, cheap headphones on, done.

I met Pat, a couple of times in Boston. He said his secret to playing guitar the way he does was to not eat but drink lots of coffee.
