Yes, at first run

geany ~/bin/bam

will not background itself. It will open a new tab once it's started. Could be some sort of wrong config on my side as well.

i think i know what you mean:
when a geany instance is already running, new files are often opened in it, and if you do that from the command line, you get your prompt back.
but sometimes it decides to open a new instance instead. no clue why and when.

Geany annoyed me for a while, since 1st start from term will not move itself to the bg, so I have been using a lil script for that

#!/bin/bash

# geany in background

geany "$@" 2>/dev/null &
geany &

This works for me in the terminal. Geany is run in the backgound at first run itself and the terminal is available for other use (you might wanna hit the enter key to get the prompt).

Agreed - the blue is unreadable on a dark background! I have no need to C&P though - just drag across and select the text.

Geany has options:

man geany wrote:

-i --new-instance
Don't  open  files  in  a running instance, force opening a new
instance.  Only available if Geany was  compiled  with  support
                 for Sockets.

-s, --no-session
Don't load the previous session's files.

which I use in a launcher to open some specific file(s). Otherwise, for me it always seems to use an existing instance, if there is one.

I don't even use a browser or a laptop/desktop anymore for email. It's all alerted and read on my Android phone via my email apps.

Hello,

I have tried installing ADeskBar via gDebi and downloaded packages:

Install in order
libgnome-menu2_3.0.1-4_i386.deb
python-gmenu_3.0.1-4_i386
gnome-menus_3.13.3-9_i386.deb
adeskbar.0.4.3-all.deb
Run Program ... adeskbar

Unfortunately the Preferences window will not open when I try to activate it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I suggest you run the command in a terminal and see if there are any error messages.

(Also, this isn't the appropriate place for help requests -  please use eg the GUI & Applications section wink )

Panel - tint2 or lxpanel
System Monitor - gkrellm
Media Player - VLC
Streaming Music Client - none yet
Image Viewer - geeqie
PDF Viewer - evince
Run Dialog - dmenu from openbox main menu (I also use fbmenu, which comes with fluxbox).

Re: BL- What do you use for these basic apps?

Window Manager - dwm
Terminal - rxvt-unicode & st
File Manager -  pcmanfm & vifm
Browser - Firefox-esr (start using palemoon)
Text Editor - vim & geany
Panel - dwm default + own script with {volume, cpu%, freemem, freedisk, date, hour}
System Monitor - don't use at all (I ckeck my dwm bar)
Media Player - mpv & cmus
Streaming Music Client - none
Image Viewer - sxiv
Desktop wallpaper setter - feh
Pdf viewer - zathura
Run Dialog - dmenu

I like openbox, but dwm/i3/bspwm are more to the point to me. The first I do after installing bunsenlabs is delete all apps I don't use (like vlc, nitrogen, thunar...).
