Well, there were cases where facebook blocked accounts and asked extorted people for ID or driving licence to confirm identity. Not to mention their real-name policy.

It's amazing how this technology works, but also frightening how it can be used.
Like the first comment said:

I think the scary part is that AI will be able to create unimaginable hordes of seemingly real profiles on social media, perpetuating any belief or reshaping any public opinion as its creators see fit.

Behind bots are real people, with many fake profiles, that make posts which create an impression of a favourable public opinion. That's how they turn the tide of public opinion. They also attack any undesired opinion(s), and if they can't they use less subtle methods, putting words in your mouth or somehow making you look bad.

The democrats (kleptocrats) used them first when they were in power. So when the progressive party (also kleptomaniacs) won the elections, the bots offered their services to them. The ruling party was like: "Sure, use our computers in the party's offices. Here's a table where you fill in you comments, time, websites, names of the profiles you replied to. Don't expect social security or health care, you'll get cash and a sandwich for lunch (as with your previous employer)."
The democrats now etiquette most their critics online as bots with the derogative term "sandwichers".

My sister-in-law joined the progressive party because, you know, it's impossible to get the job in this country otherwise.
When she joined the party, they asked her to create a facebook account and give the password to the ruling party's office. So she did.

What did they used that faceboook profile for, spying other people or as a bot, I can only guess. The prime minister (then, now switched to president via democratic elections) used to go to political tv shows where he showed contents his political opponents posted on social networks, all printed on papers. Not only the political opponents, ordinary people too. He intimidated/discredited anyone who criticized him or progressive party. Our big brother has eyes everywhere.

Years passed, sister-in-law hasn't got the job, obedient people are more desirable, not the one that finished college that lasts for 5 years with good marks.
When she later realized there will be no job, she changed her passwords. But, I'm thinking, there is always a possibility that the bots may have copied her data/photos somewhere and can use her photos and data for something.

Such bots exist everywhere, big companies use them, politicians, governments, anyone that can pay enough to influence the public opinion online. Not limited to social networks, they make comments everywhere, news sites, scientific sites... Always sharp, prepared and always attacking.
When Big oil doesn't like climate change polpularity rise, they hire bots. When 50.000 people protest, let's hire bots to say there is no more than 5.000.
Now it just got easier for them with AI. And the criminals of course.
But the people behind the bots will be replaced fully by AI one day. No need to  waste all those sanwiches for their lunch, AI can be more energy, money and time efficient.

Welcome to the brave new world.

you don't see the "real" Conky so often, esp. in context with the Linux conky.
Here's a little quiz:
There's a sort of Conky version for Android, and it's called Moss. Why?

Related to this, I found the following video quite scary - someone trained a neural network to make a text to speech bot, using audio clips from a youtuber. The results aren't perfect but it is recognisably the same voice, and given more time/resources they could use a lot more audio clips to improve it:

If someone does this with the voice of a famous person, like an actor or a politician, it could really make people aware of the dangers we might be facing in the near future.

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

^ i always thougth the public domain is clearly defined (like, after so-and-so many years, things become public domain), but today I learned it's a "Negative Space":

...and apparently it seems to be regulated differently in different countries?

anyhow, good to hear anything positive is happening in the US of A these days...
