How to change the color/opacity of the tint2 panel

Is there a way to refresh the tint2 panel's color or transparency on the fly?

The idea is to have the imitate the efect of a dynamic panel transparency, like with budgie-desktop's panel.
When there is a maximized window, the panel transparency would be off, if there is no maximized window in the window stack, then the transparency would turn on.

I don't think that there is an alternative to using signals (i.e. restart for tint2). This is probably a bit drastic for what you're trying to do.

tint2 handles SIGUSR1 and SIGUSR2. Although USR1 is described in the manual as 'reload config file' I think it's a restart.

Thanks for the reply.
Signals are too much for this.
SIGUSR1 does reload the config file but it takes quite a while to load all the panel items (taskbar and icons). It's too much for only changing the panel tranparency.

Maybe if tint2 is set to be transparent and have some undecorated window bellow, with only one  pixmap in the window, with the same geometry as the tint2 panel... That window would have to skip the task list a s well.
I could then hide/show that window from a script or somehow change it's transparency or pixmap.
Not sure if all that is worth...

Just for fun, I made a gtk3 window with window type SPLASHSCREEN.
The window goes behind transparent tint2 and loads the initial image.
But as soon as the image is cleared/replaced when one window is maximized, some dark shadow appears on top of the window and doesn't go away.

Hi, yes it's a problem with compton. Please edit its configuration and search the parameter shadow-exclude. After that and behind, put it again like that:

shadow-exclude = [ "_GTK_FRAME_EXTENTS@:c" ];

Then save the configuration and restart compositing.

By the way, that shadow-exclude line is not intended to disable shadows for GTK3 windows!
As the comment in the file says: The "_GTK_FRAME_EXTENTS@:c" entry is to fix dual shadows with GTK3 Client Side Decorations.

In fact, I've found that adding any shadow-exclude line after the main list disables all shadows.
