But the snag was: ska, rock steady, bluebeat and reggae were the favoured music of the dreaded skinheads, deadly enemies of longhaired hippy types.

Yipes, ain't that the definition of irony. Like racist white guys I know who crank Lil' Wayne in their pickups.

i don't know how it was in the early days, but in my youth there was an important distinction distinction between working class leftish skinheads, and nazi skinheads.
only the former listened to ska and oi punk and such.
methinks the specials already made that distinction on their first album (1979), which was really all about celebrating the coming to gether of different leftish working class subcultures (regardless of skincolor) and defending oneself against the real arseholes. at least that's how i read it.

Nice. Of course you mean the brand new release that includes a bunch of demos and was produced by George Martin's son?

^ I didn't realise Muse were still going. I can't say I'll be buying the album though, I lost interest at Black Holes & Revelations.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (1972, full album, HD)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbeavlJEYrk

Someone, please explain the internet to me. How is this content available, essentially for free? Vimeo, 123Movies, etc...

-edit- Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (1975, full album, HD)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63MBrm3QAO4

Pink Floyd - Animals (1977, full album, HD)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd1y-DD … UuGmAGBfhR

Pink Floyd - The Wall (1979, full album, HD)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R_Kn5gq4Og

Productive little suckers, weren't they?

-edit- My favorite, after repeat listenings and the passage of time, is Animals. I love how clean and pure the production, sounds and subject matter are. Wish You Were is a genius follow up to Dark Side, I don't understand how they kept getting better until The Wall, another landmark record. Amazing artistry.

After watching an older episode of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, I fell into the youtube hole called Bear McCreary (again) and right now listen to parts of the Black Sails Soundtrack.
Might end up listening to Battlestar Galactica and Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I had forgotten how beautifully, starkly powerful this song is (Pink Floyd - Goodbye Blue Sky). The adult-contemporary version of death metal.

Thank you, Pink Floyd, for teaching me how to properly pronounce "jaguar" and "charade" (jaguar Honorable Mention to Top Gear).

Pete Townshend live at age 25 (How talented can a group be? Pete apparently laying a throw-down to Hendrix. Remember, at Monterey Pete smashed his guitar and then Hendrix came on and lit his on fire.)...

Goodbye Blue Sky is absolutely incredible.  The underlying feel of dread with that song....

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Re: Pink Floyd
those were the heroes of my (early) teenage days.
it all started with the album "Wish you were here" on headphones on a cheap boombox.
I was 14.
I was blown away.
Nothing had prepared me that Music could be like this (and not the top 50 hits i'd been listening to til then).

Later I smoked my first spliff with a friend while listening to Ummagumma (2nd half, studio recorded).
I "understood" everything! big_smile

Ffwd a few years, The Wall was being shown in my local cinema.
I was already into The Cure etc., but this film touched me deeply.
Made me cry.
I felt every minute of it, every song. like Pink Floyd understand me better than my parents.
I came home and tried to explain it all to them - I don't think they understood even the first bit.

Pink Floyd: reaching into the 80s. That's what it was for me.
smile

PS: of course I also listened to the rest of their oeuvre.

I believe so. I am a free trial hunter when it comes to streaming music - currently running 6 months tidal free trial and it was featuring said album on its main page. I love the Beatles so kept listening to that.

Had to stop shortly as I am studying for network+ exam, 29 days left!
