Re: What browser addons do You use?

Could someone maybe comment on Scriptsafe?

Is it any good? Maybe even better than Noscript?

Re: What browser addons do You use?

^ no idea.
is that a FF addon?
but how could it be better than noscript?

anyhow, what these addons do is fairly simple; the only room for improvement is in UX i guess.

Re: What browser addons do You use?

^Scriptsafe has been available on (Ungoogled) Chromium, but not on Firefox. Now it has changed as it is available on Quantum. It's worth a try. I'd say it makes a better impression than Noscript. I think it's more sophisticated, there are more options available too.

Re: What browser addons do You use?

sounds like google slaves trying to get a foot in FF's door.
why not stick to the original? nicer UI?

Re: What browser addons do You use?

^I don't get it. Scriptsafe is also available for Opera and Vivaldi and it's an opensource project: https://github.com/andryou/scriptsafe

How is it related to google slaves?

This add-on can even block cookies, webrtc, canvas fingerprinting, click-through referrer data, etc. and it has mainly five star reviews on the firefox add-on page. So far I tested it, it was working fine.

Edit: This is interesting too. Why chrome has noscript.

One thing I'd like to be able to do with Noscript is enable eg google tag services only when on a certain site.

Or is that already possible?

normal service will be resumed as soon as possible

Just discovered https://github.com/vayan/external-video which launches youtube-dl + mpv when one clicks a video link (saving a click and page load as compared to other similar add-ons).

Re: What browser addons do You use?

So an update on my previous comment https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 318#p59318

Adblock Plus
Canvas Defender - Blocks fingerprinting.
Decentraleyes - Load CDN content from your cache instead of the online CDN. If the request doesn't go out they can't track it.
DuckDuckGo - I've tried it many times but this time it's sticking. This also blocks trackers.
Firefox Containers - Excellent sandbox add on that stop tracking dead in it's tracks.
HTTPS Everywhere
Privacy Badger

This one seems to work quite well: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo … t-cookies/

If your FF is set to delete all cookies whenever you close it, you have to click cookie warnings all the time.

Re: What browser addons do You use?

Blocking Google via /etc/hosts a lot more deeper thanks to this post really is making my browser fly by speed.

Usually i use use StevenBlack/hosts to stop many nonsense urls.
But extending blocks with the above link personally gave me a high performance.

Make sure you have DuckDuckGo/searx/Yandex or other search engine on your homepage aswell. If one don't miss Google should try adding those google blocks urls on /etc/hosts.

Forums/Webpages that i vist often are opening instant even on low hardware.

Re: What browser addons do You use?

Sounds interesting Nili but i have heard yandex is similar to say a russian google. Probably targets more windows users than unix users but i have serious doubts about hooking into anything yandex.

As for blocking google via etc/hosts that link you post to is from 2013, surely that would be outdated?

Hi! My default is DuckDuckGo, but i use alternative search engine when looking for something which i can't find from one to another.
Rarely i use Yandex, someoneelse may find it more useful for his/her search. Also i don't know that targets different users regarding the usage of systems smile I have got some good results from Yandex. Anyway my primary is DuckDuckGO.

Regarding Google blocks, Yes, the original link is from 2013, but many google analytics, gstatic or ads.googlesyndication are still present. Blocking them via 0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.1 looks valid.
Maybe Google Ip's have changed over the years while the Google hosts have stayed the same. I see too many often those analytics and statics from Google requests.

I note them from my browser statusbar, when i click a link before going to my destination my request goes first to google big brother then goes to my destination. Today i added those links and Google seems almost dead. Webpages are open promptly. I miss a few captcha solving from few pages and other google features by blocking them, but that's the risk i take. Better have Google OFF for me.

as long as you don't say it's worse than google, i'm totally with you.

blocking google is never outdated!
seriously, the /etc/hosts file is a venerable, old method of resolving IPs, and one of the few that are present on both windows and unix-like systems.
it's totally up-to-date!

that said, some browsers (chrom/e/ium-based) might use their own nameservers.
you will notice this quickly, whether ads are being blocked or not.

Re: What browser addons do You use?

It just goes to show how horrible the internet really is when a hosts file such as the steven black hosts has to be created along with hosts files to block google the once benevolent search engine that was just a search engine and nothing more.

I like the work of these people here https://someonewhocares.org/hosts/

They do good work.
