Re: What are you listening to right now?

World music is the topic ATM!

Africa, 1980s.

King Sunny Ade, Nigerian jùjú...

Fela Kuti, Nigerian afro-beat, according to Wikipedia...

Manu Dibango, from Cameroon, "Soul Makossa" (1972/'73!)...

And my favorite by him, Abele Dance...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

More Indonesia...
A change from YouTube - you can listen to this 20min tune on discogs:
https://www.discogs.com/composition/d70 … log-Barang
It's from a big collection of cassettes on the Fajar label:
https://www.discogs.com/label/128033-Fajar
Just pick an album and follow the links.

Discovered Fajar just now because of this beautiful album on YouTube:
Gamelan Jawa Vol 5 (Fajar label)
If that's not perfect for a sweltering hot afternoon I don't know what is.

funny, in german it just means weather.

this band has a lot to say about the weather: The Chills
might have a cooling effect on some, though I always found them to be warming, like a thick woollen sweater on a January afternoon.

PS: thanks to all the Indonesian/far-eastern material, enjoying that a lot.

Great! Love highlife! Forgot that a nice laid-back highlife tune is also perfect for this heat.

Many thanks. OK you can turn the machines on again...

Hey hhh!
Still listening to Varèse. I seldom post yt links, it's an exception, the overdubs, which FZappa hated.

Edgard Varèse - Hyperprism (1922-23)

True. Another big influence: Igor Stravinsky. It's music for ballet
Petrhuska found on that collection Beat the Boots

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Early Steely Dan from Can't By A Thrill (1972).

Fire In The Hole

It's what I look for in a perfect song. Three and a half minutes and done. Poingant lyrics, an amazing, dark chord progession, killer drumming and brilliant solos. I love how the outro guitar solo by Becker is low in the mix. Fagen's vocals on this were on point.
