Looking for the artwork for the next Debian release

The time is fast approaching for the next Debian release with a "soft" freeze expected for Debian stretch at the end of the year and Debian 9.0 following some time in the middle of 2017.

Debian are now requesting artwork submissions for the new theme:
https://bits.debian.org/2016/07/looking … lease.html

The Debian Wiki has a page here:
https://wiki.debian.org/DebianDesktop/Artwork/Stretch

  • Deadline for submission: 5th of September 2016

  • Tenative deadline for Voting: 26th of September 2016

Re: Looking for the artwork for the next Debian release

I think this will be my first consciously aware Debian release!

https://wiki.debian.org/DebianStretch
For the proposed Freeze schedule here, they say Feb 2017 will be the full freeze... What's generally the amount of time from full freeze to official "Stablization"?

Anyway on topic, I have no art skills to speak of, but I'd be happy to rate and admire!

*Adopts gravelly tones* Six months.

*normal voice* Roughly speaking, of course big_smile

Debian serves no release before its time, which is "when it's ready".  HoaS is correct, though; it has historically been about 6 months, with a pre-release notice of about a fortnight so the people can plan their release fêtes.

@ HoaS
- *minion voice* más o menos.
- *calculator 'click'* ±

@H_B - and subconsciously? And we'er the same: rate and admire  smile

We have a few good GIMPers, Blenderers, Inkscaperers here that could probably do something nice.

Re: Looking for the artwork for the next Debian release

Hmm so roughly six months from Feb 2017... So mid 2017 we're looking at for Deb 9.0 then..

@Sector_11   subconsciously, I've passively noticed those version numbers change on linux distro's!  big_smile

Re: Looking for the artwork for the next Debian release

I'd say 3rd quarter 2017, anything before that is gravy.

Everything gets announced on the mailing lists, here's how jessie progressed...

Actually pvsage put it dead on:

and I have to agree with HoaS as well, ±6months seems to be the norm.

Have a look: Release statistics

Since I've been a #!'er/LabRat I've come to expect it - when it gets here!  smile
Wheezy was 'frozen' for almost a year - 308 days.

^ I was thinking that freeze extension was for jessie, but they hit everything on time even with the switch to systemd and gcc/libc6 upgrades.
