Re: May 2016 Screenshots

Hi everyone! I'm Dan...I'm new here. Head_on_a_Stick was kind enough to invite me to post these scrots. This is plain Debian that I built by just installing the base system and then added Openbox and only the software and packages that I wanted... --no-install-recommends is your friend in such a case. wink

Anyway, the second picture shows the obmenu-generator menu. I found a .deb file for it online and installed it, and it's worked great. A few days after I installed it, I inadvertently found out that it was Head_on_a_Stick that made the .deb that I installed. So I wanted to thank him personally for it.

The screen shots aren't much...I like my setup simple. smile

Re: May 2016 Screenshots

Head_on_a_Stick, how did you get that nice-looking white right-click menu with the icons showing? I'd like to have that on my desktop.

Re: May 2016 Screenshots

^ I used xfdesktop to control the root window (add it to ~/.config/openbox/autostart in BunsenLabs) and then added a keybind (well, a mouse-bind for button 3) to call the menu with:

xfdesktop --menu

This is the menu system for the XFCE desktop and may not make much sense in BunsenLab's Openbox setup, perhaps look at obmenu-generator or obamenu instead?

EDIT: On-topic: live Gentoo running Plasma 5.6 with OpenRC booting the system:

Still using Coffee Pixels (remix) but now with Coffee Kiss.

Cover Art uses coverart.sh with last line echo -n "$COVERS" replaced by cp "$COVERS" "/home/user/.coverart".  (mocp OnSongChange command runs coverart.sh and conky pulls .coverart image)

Re: May 2016 Screenshots

My last two scrots for the month. I felt like playing today, so I downloaded the Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus LTS mini.iso. The installer had an option for a Mate "minimal" desktop, so I went for it. It's the full Mate desktop but with things like a media player and libreoffice left to the user to install. It might have used "--no-install-recommends" too because I was able to replace caja and mate-power-manager with no problems. After some quick tweaks...
Screenshot_2016-05-29_22-38-43.th.png

Then came the real fun part. I used @johnraff's netinstall script to add a BunsenLabs session. It didn't go smoothly and I had to hit it with a hammer for a couple of hours, but I have everything working, I think. I'm using mate-panel instead of tint2 and mate-settings-daemon and mate notifications instead of lxappearance and xfce4-notifyd...

Re: May 2016 Screenshots

@hhh - well done; is that their dark theme or one of yours? And how could they pass on Xoloitzcuintli for a release name!

Re: May 2016 Screenshots

@PackRat, thanks! The Marco theme is BlackMate (a default Mate theme), the GTk theme is good ol' Bunsen-Dark, though Mate provides a couple of very attractive dark GTK themes by default as well. Ubuntu provides some cool custom Ubuntu/Mate wallpapers, like the one shown.

EDIT: This is frustrating: my AMD laptop shows 20-40% CPU (on one core) for X, it does this in both Debian and Arch and it never used to do this at all.

Just installed FreeBSD to check for sure and it's doing the same thing there as well  mad

w.t.f.

Also, FreeBSD is nice smile
