Re: What Are You Listening To? MetalHead Edition

Some glorious Black Metal by way of Dold Vorde Ens Navn.  Pretty much the Black Metal album of 2021 for me.

I think a wet fart sounds better than GWAR personally.  But that's just me, I am sure many people think quite differently big_smile

^ We discussed this before! I don't think GWAR is great in anyway, just that, being old enough to remember when they started getting noticed, they were better than I expected them to be.

Has Gojira's new album been posted yet? The French have entered the chat...

Ah, so we have,  Apologies.  My memory is not the best.

GWAR are very much over-rated.  I don't get the love for them.

Currently digesting some most excellent Darkthrone worship via Pakkt from Germany,

That track starts out quite mellow.

So does this one. Borderline pop. Enya on meth. Right back at you with new VENOM PRISON - Pain of Oizys

Screw all the subgenres, just call it all Metal.

Worm, I find quite trippy.  I like them a lot.

Re: What Are You Listening To? MetalHead Edition

I expect everyone here knows "Breadfan", but here's another good one from the same band (Budgie).

RIP Burke Shelley, who died on January 10. He was quite similar to Geddy Lee in his vocals, the fact that he played bass and that Budgie were a power trio.

IMO, they never had the success they deserved; Tony Bourge was IMO an excellent guitarist who had Tony Iommi's knack of coming up with great riffs.

Re: What Are You Listening To? MetalHead Edition

Any Metallica fan worth their salt has heard Breadfan which has then led them onto Budgie!!

Such a cool song.

Re: What Are You Listening To? MetalHead Edition

^ I wasn't that big on Metallica. I liked the early albums (Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, iirc) they put out before their first bassist died, but the albums after that didn't really work for me. I do think they were great doing covers for the whole "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" scene though. Back in the day a mate lent me a bootleg cassette containing their covers of Breadfan, Blitzkrieg and some Motorhead tracks. Good stuff. I also remember enjoying that Whisky In The Jar song they covered (probably later in their career?). Best compliment I can give them is that cover they did of Blue Oyster Cult's Astronomy, which I think I actually prefer over the original (at least back when I heard it, might have a different opinion now), and you've gotta be doing something right if you're improving on BOC, even if it is just that one instance.
