Nothing, absolutely nothing in the first wave of Black Metal beats Bathory......Hellhammer comes a close second though.  Bathory were such a force.

Kicking it a bit old school with Blind Guardian's 2nd album:

Very true, "respect for the two band names you mentioned" but even Venom was a strong pillar of the first wave.

Venom Wiki...

—are considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general. Venom's second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of an extreme metal subgenre: black metal.

I believe the origin of the name Black Metal is their (Venom's ), patent, however always many debates and discussions were made regarding Black Metal terms or era, I want to think they are one of the founders.

Re: What Are You Listening To? MetalHead Edition

Has anyone seen the "in the heart of the sea" movie yet? I'm seeing it next week (star wars won out this weekend), but I've been craving my nautical doom metal because of it...hence

Divinity of Oceans- Ahab

Ahab_The_Divinity_of_Oceans_cover.jpg

One of my favorites by them is Nickerson's Theme...just..such a slow, mournful track...

Okay...if there is one album that reminds me of the book "Necromancer" by William Gibson this is is...Found this by chance. A very dystopian cyberpunk electric album...I actually really like it...

Awesome, it's incredible the influence Lord of the Rings has had on Black Metal.

Indeed, and somehow..the story and theme just 'fits' well. Same with Moby Dick. Reading the book, I can't help but associate it's idea's with dark gloomy metal.
