Re: What are you listening to right now?

One of the best rock songs ever, Pinball Wizard by the Who...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xZzGtDW2p4

Ever since I was young boy I've played the silver ball

From SoHo down to Brighton, I must have played them all

But I ain't seen nothing like him, in any amusement hall

That deaf, dumb and blind kid... sure plays a mean pinball!

He stands like a statue, becomes part of the machine

Feeling all the bumpers, always plays it clean

Plays by intuition, the digit counters fall

That deaf, dumb and blind kid... sure plays a mean pinball!

He's a Pinball Wizard, there has to be a twist

A Pinball Wizard's got such a supple wrist

How do you think he does it?

I don't know

What makes him so good?

Ain't got no distractions, can't hear no buzzers and bells

Don't see no lights a flashing, plays by sense of smell

Always gets a replay, never seen him fall

That deaf, dumb and blind kid... sure plays a mean pinball!

I thought I was the body table king

But I just handed my Pinball Crown to him

Even at my favorite table he can beat my best

His disciples lead him in, and he just does the rest

He's got crazy flipping fingers, never seen him fall

That deaf, dumb and blind kid... sure plays a mean pinball!

Re: What are you listening to right now?

"Oh, @hhh, why is it that Pete Towshend is you're favorite singer/songwriter of all time?" Said absolutely nobody.

Well. Let's start with this...

  1. My Generation (1965)

  2. A Quick One (1966)

  3. The Who Sell Out (1967)

  4. Tommy (1969)

  5. Who's next (1971)

  6. Quadrophenia (1973)

  7. The Who by Numbers (1975)

  8. Who Are You (1978)

  9. Face Dances (1981)

  10. It's Hard (1982)

  11. Endless Wire (2006)

  12. Who (2019)

Also a bunch of solo work around that. But let's start at the beginning...

1965, I Don't Mind

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GdQaZ74CE8

1966, A Quick One

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJv2-_--EY4

1967, I Can See For Miles...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0iqg2UanEc

1969, Moog synth FTW, See Me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IVwkz-BQGc

1971, one of the most perfect albums ever produced, Who's next, and I'm going with the sole John Entwistle song on the album, My Wife

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0iA_rOcn9Y

Are we only at 1973? Quadrophenia, arguably the greatest album recording of all time. I pick The Rock

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-XiVtp2ISg

1975, Who By Numbers, Slip Kid (turn this one up)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8KJnn41j3E

Gotta refresh the page, his career is so long. Not even the 80s yet.

1978, Who Are You, let's go with Who Are You

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNbBDrceCy8

1980, Empty Glass, title track

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKWaG0Wp-Ps

1985, White City, Give Blood (ft. David Gilmour)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeXf90OGTHE

1993, Psychoderelict (music only, full album. You should listen to all of it. A really well produced recording of mostly brilliant material.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlOis9- … i5gnwkuo4k

My favorfavorite
My favorite track on that is I Am Afraid. You know he's sincere because be says it fifty times.

I can't think of another artist who flows so effortlessly and drastically between hard and soft. He's my favorite.

Oh yeah, I forgot. He could perform even when absolutely hammered. He is blitzed here...

https://youtu.be/k8fsAe-htOw
Let that autoplay. It's documented that he drank a bottle of brandy waiting to come onstage. There's an edit at some point because he passed out and fell off his stool.

^Proper! Love SAHB.
They seem get more recognition these days, but they've usually been in that "best bands nobody knew about" category, at least amongst people I knew.

Yeah, glad someone else has heard of them smile They were quite popular
amongst my classmates when I was at school but they didn't have a very high profile in the country as a whole.

I wouldn't really recommend that album for anyone new to the band though; they'd probably be better off with "SAHB Stories" (the album with "Boston Tea Party" on it), "Next" or "Tomorrow Belongs To Me".

If you want to argue that Stewart Copeland isn't one of the best rock drummers ever, I'd respond with this.
